Job Description
Responsible for operating X‑ray equipment that produces radiographs of designated areas of the body for diagnostic purposes. Assists physicians in performing imaging procedures, reviews and correlates patients’ previous reports, and acts as a point of contact for various medical departments. Ensures proper documentation during the exam as required and performs specimen imaging when necessary, ensuring specimens are sent to pathology with proper labeling.
Principal Accountabilities
Positions patient on examining table and changes immobilization devices to obtain optimum views of specified area of body requested by physician.
Explains procedures to patient to reduce anxieties and obtain patient cooperation.
Moves X‑ray equipment into specified position and adjusts equipment controls to set exposure factors such as time and distance based on knowledge of radiographic exposure techniques and protocols.
Practices radiation protection techniques using beam‑restrictive devices, patient shielding skills, and knowledge of applicable exposure factors to minimize radiation to patient and staff.
Operates mobile X‑ray equipment in operating room, emergency room, or at patient’s bedside.
Specializes in production of screening and diagnostic X‑rays for detection of breast tumors.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications – Required
Bachelor’s Degree in an accredited RT Program or related field.
Minimum 1 year of clinical experience as a staff technologist in mammography or a relevant area.
State RT license.
ARRT Mammography Certification.
CPR Certified.
Preferred Qualifications
Minimum of 200 mammography exams performed within the past 24 months.
Certifications such as ARDMS, BLS, RHM, CRT.
