Data Governance System Administrator
Salt Lake City, UT
6month Contract to Hire
Contract Rate: $50.00 – $60.00per hr
Salary Target: $100K – $120K
Job Description:
Our client is seeking a technically deep, self-directed Data Governance System Administrator to own and operate their enterprise data governance platform ecosystem. This role is built for someone who operates more like a Data Engineer or Software Engineer than a traditional analyst — someone who arrives as a Collibra expert, can design and execute governance programs end-to-end, and brings the scripting and development skills to automate and scale governance operations without hand-holding.
The individual in this role will administer tools that span metadata management, data sensitivity scanning, data quality, and data security. They will partner with stakeholders across the business to ensure these systems deliver against organizational policy and program objectives — and they will drive that work with execution clarity and platform authority from day one.
Required Skills:
Collibra Expert — Collibra Ranger certified (or actively pursuing); deep hands-on proficiency across Business Glossary, Data Catalog, Lineage, Workflow Engine, and Collibra APIs. Must be able to hit the ground running with zero ramp-up.
Data Sensitivity Scanning — proven experience designing and operating sensitivity scanning programs across both structured (relational, NoSQL) and unstructured data sources using BigID, Collibra, or equivalent tools.
3+ years of experience with Python scripting, automation, and REST API integration for governance workflows; comfortable with Git, modular code design, and repeatable deployment of platform configurations.
SQL Expertise with complex query authoring, stored procedures, and performance tuning across Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server environments.
Relational & NoSQL Databases — hands-on development experience with platforms such as Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra.
Linux & On-Premises Infrastructure — command-line proficiency and experience operating governance tooling in enterprise on-prem or hybrid environments.
Data Quality Administration — configuration of DQ rules, scorecards, and monitoring pipelines (Collibra DQ or equivalent).
Data Visualization — Power BI or Tableau for governance reporting and stakeholder dashboards.
Financial / Banking Domain Experience — familiarity with regulatory data requirements (GLBA, Client 239, FFIEC, SOX) strongly preferred.
3+ years of experience in a data analytics, data engineering, or data governance role with increasing technical ownership.
Bonus/Soft Skills:
Execution Clarity and the ability to take a governance objective (e.g., Metadata Management, Data Sensitivity Scanning) and independently define phases, milestones, and technical steps through to completion without step-by-step direction.
Engineering Mindset — default instinct to script, automate, and build scalable solutions rather than rely on manual processes or point-and-click administration.
Strategic Governance thinking that understands what a mature data governance program looks like and can articulate a credible roadmap from current state to target state.
Staying current with Collibra platform releases, governance industry trends, and evolving regulatory requirements with no prompting.
Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, Computer Science, Statistics, or related field required; equivalent experience (3+ years) considered.
Collibra Ranger certification required or must be actively in progress with demonstrable platform expertise.
