Golf Course Maintenance Intern
Starting pay rate: $18 hourly
We are seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to join our team as a Golf Course Maintenance Intern. This internship offers hands-on experience in all areas of golf course maintenance at one of the nation's top golf and resort destinations, Turning Stone Resort. This internship provides a unique opportunity for interns to apply their knowledge while learning from industry professionals in a real-world setting.
Responsibilities:
Participate in daily course setup and maintenance operations.
Actively contribute to morning and afternoon planning meetings.
Operate mowers, string trimmers, and other equipment to maintain golf course grounds, including greens, aprons, tees, and fairways.
Perform turf syringing as needed.
Calibrate and apply fertilizers to greens, tees, fairways, and rough.
Assist with pesticide applications under the supervision of a certified applicator.
Support tree and shrub care, including planting, pruning, and removal, as well as disease inspections.
Inspect and make minor repairs to sprinkler systems.
Operate hand-powered and large equipment, such as tractors and mowers, while adhering to safety standards.
Maintain fuel and fluid levels for all equipment, perform basic preventative maintenance, and report equipment issues to the Mechanical Technician.
Ensure all equipment is properly stored at the maintenance facility.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Currently enrolled in a Turf Management or related program.
Previous golf course experience is preferred but not required.
Basic knowledge of chemical application and calibration processes.
Previous irrigation experience is a plus.
Familiarity with large mowers and hand-powered equipment.
Understanding of golf rules and strategies is beneficial.
Strong desire to advance in the turf management industry.
Flexible availability, including weekends and early mornings.
Valid driver's license required.

Turf Grass Management:
Learn about turf types, their growth cycles, and best practices for maintaining healthy turf through mowing, syringing, and fertilization.
Understand turf stress factors and how to mitigate them, such as through proper irrigation and pesticide use.
Chemical Application & Calibration:
Gain hands-on experience with calibrating and applying fertilizers and pesticides.
Learn safety protocols for handling and applying chemicals under the supervision of a certified applicator.
Equipment Operation & Maintenance:
Develop skills in operating a variety of landscaping and turf maintenance equipment, including mowers, tractors, and string trimmers.
Learn basic equipment maintenance procedures, including fluid checks, cleaning, and reporting repairs.
Golf Course Ecology & Sustainability:
Experience the ecological aspects of golf course management, focusing on sustainable practices for maintaining turf and landscapes.
Understand the environmental impact of turf management and how to balance high-quality playability with eco-friendly practices.
