Expected Hiring Range:

$ 37,315.20 - 41,046.72 . Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications. A starting salary above the range listed may be considered for highly qualified individuals not to exceed the maximum of the grade.

Examples of Duties

Grounds Maintenance Expertise:

Perform a variety of grounds maintenance tasks using an array of tools and equipment to keep public spaces clean and well-maintained.
Landscaping Skills:

Engage in general landscaping activities, including mowing with push mowers, trimming trees and shrubs, and utilizing weed eaters to maintain a pristine appearance.
Specialized Equipment Operation:

Use specialized tools such as backpack-mounted sprayers to maintain concrete islands, sidewalks, and other hardscape features.
Winter Care:

Ensure walkways remain clear and safe during winter by shoveling snow and applying ice-melting materials as needed.
Equipment Maintenance & Safety:

Ensure all tools and equipment are well-maintained, adhering to safety standards and procedures for a safe working environment.
Team Collaboration:

Work closely with fellow team members and supervisors to accomplish tasks efficiently and contribute to a productive work environment.
Additional Duties:

Take on other equipment operation and general labor tasks as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and a strong work ethic.
Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Municipal Maintenance Expertise:

Possess a solid understanding of the diverse maintenance tasks commonly performed by municipalities, ensuring efficient and effective service delivery.
Versatile Equipment Operation:

Skilled in operating a wide range of maintenance equipment, from push mowers to larger tractors and trucks, to tackle various landscaping and maintenance jobs.
Landscaping Knowledge:

Familiar with key landscaping tasks such as applying grass seed, straw, and mulch to enhance the beauty and functionality of public spaces.
Safety Awareness:

Well-versed in safety protocols and committed to identifying and reporting potential safety hazards to ensure a safe work environment.
Collaborative Teamwork:

Strong communicator with the ability to work seamlessly with team members, always following supervisory guidance to ensure tasks are completed efficiently.
Safety-First Mindset:

Dedicated to maintaining a strong commitment to safety, ensuring all work is performed in alignment with established safety standards and best practices.
Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED equivalency and 6 months of work experience in lines, street maintenance, and/or grounds facilities, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License
Supplemental Information

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Work in this class is described as medium and frequently requires physical exertion to complete tasks and move objects.
Work typically involves the ability to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, hearing and repetitive motions.
Excessive walking is required.
The worker is required to have the acuity to be the operator of trucks and other equipment.
The employee is subject to hazards including a variety of physical conditions, proximity to moving mechanical parts, and exposure to extreme weather conditions, noise, and vibration.
Working conditions include both inside and outside environmental conditions.
