Role Summary
At Sherwood Design Engineers, we value collaboration that incorporates multiple perspectives, and believe that diverse ideas produce more robust and equitable solutions. We have an amazing opportunity for a driven and curious Project Engineer focused on civil design to support our team. The successful candidate will have a passion for sustainable design, building and maintaining client relationships and directing quality management processes to ensure work remains on track. The Project Engineer should be able to delegate work to design engineers, as he/she leverages and promotes each team member’s strengths, in search to create added value to our services. This candidate should be prepared to work on projects throughout the country and internationally.

Minimum Skills

Typically 6+ years of industry experience

Licenciate’s degree in Civil Engineering

Extensive experience with Site Grading, Earthwork Calculations, Road Design, Drainage (Calculations & Reports), Utility Layout & Sizing, Technical Report Writing for different types of projects (industrial, residential, hospitality)

Proficiency in Civil 3D and knowledge of other civil programs (Infraworks, Storm and Sanitary Sewer Analysis, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, PCSWMM, etc.)

Previous experience in coordinating and leading a design team to accomplish project completion

Previous experience in putting together plan set packages and providing redlines for design engineers and drafters

Works independently under general supervision

Exercise sound judgment on design decisions and in application of standard methods

Work with multiple site base files oriented in different coordinate frames and varying units

Civil infrastructure inspection experience

Ability to travel to other offices/sites as needed (B1 american visa preferred)

English proficiency (B2+/C1)

Incorporated to CFIA

B1 driver’s license

Preferred Skills

Certifications or other sustainability-oriented accreditation preferred

Design Build project experience, especially those with experience in industrial (process) oriented construction fields

Knowledge of GIS principles

Expected Outcomes

Plans, designs, and oversees civil engineering projects, such as airports, buildings, channels, dams, harbors, irrigation systems, pipelines, power plants, railroads, roads, sewage systems, and water supply

Analyzes reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, tests, and aerial photographs on soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and other topographical and geologic data to plan and design project

Calculates cost and determines feasibility of project based on analysis of collected data, applying knowledge and techniques of engineering, and advanced mathematics

Prepares or directs preparation and modification of reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, environmental impact studies, and designs for project

Inspects construction site to monitor progress and ensure conformance to engineering plans, specifications, and construction and safety standards

Use of computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents
