Amazon Aurora offers MySQL and PostgreSQL compatible relational database engines that combine the speed and availability of high‑end commercial databases with the simplicity and cost‑effectiveness of open source databases. It provides up to five times better performance than MySQL or three times better performance than PostgreSQL, all at a price point one‑tenth that of a commercial database while delivering similar performance and availability.

We are looking for software developers who are passionate about databases and large‑scale storage system technologies, and excited about building database systems that run across thousands of servers across multiple datacenters worldwide.

Key job responsibilities

Own the design and development of significant system software components critical to our industry‑leading database services architected for the cloud.

Architect, design, and implement highly scalable distributed database systems that provide availability, reliability, and performance guarantees.

Perform hands‑on development from building rock‑solid components to mentoring other engineers.

Exhibit top engineering skills with a good track record of delivery, plus strong communication, leadership, and customer focus.

Help shape the technology and the product as a unique and rare opportunity on the ground floor of a fast‑growing business.

Basic qualifications

3+ years of non‑internship professional software development experience

2+ years of non‑internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

1+ years of designing and developing large‑scale, multi‑tiered, multi‑threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using C#, C++, Java, or Perl

1+ years of Object‑Oriented Design experience

Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field

Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred qualifications

3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

United States, California, East Palo Alto - $165,200.00 - $223,600.00 USD annually

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
