Role: Retail Operations & AI - Principal
Retail Operations & AI – Principal is a key leadership position within Oliver Wyman’s Consumer, Telco, & Technology (CTT) and Performance Transformation (PT) practice groups in Boston, Chicago, New York or Washington DC. The role focuses on delivering strategic advice, analytical insight, and AI-driven solutions to large retailers, while building and maintaining senior client relationships and driving business development.
Responsibilities
Provide day‑to‑day leadership of client projects, manage client relationships, and participate in commercial processes, partnering with Partners to ensure engagement success.
Lead and manage complex programs of multidisciplinary teams (consultants, data scientists, data engineers, etc.) to ensure on‑time delivery that meets agreed‑upon goals, leveraging Oliver Wyman best practice and technical competence.
Guide and influence clients across all situations, including execution of commercial processes, becoming trusted advisers.
Engage fully in business building by identifying new and expanded opportunities.
Create intellectual capital through thought leadership and demonstrate knowledge on broad adjacent topics.
Develop others and build a followership as part of asset building for the firm.
Lead firm‑building activities, model firm values, and establish a strong personal brand within and outside the firm, being well regarded by Partners, peers, and clients.
Desired Skills and Experience
7+ years of experience in strategy consulting and/or the retail industry.
Strong background in conceptual problem solving and analytical skills.
Quantitative, technical toolkit including proficiency in SQL and Python.
Machine learning, data science, AI/genAI capabilities preferred.
Track record of leading and managing teams and delivering against tight deadlines in fast‑paced and demanding environments.
Outstanding communication skills; confidence in presenting to senior executives.
Undergraduate or advanced degree from a top academic program.
Willingness to travel (at least 50% of the time).

Compensation & Benefits
The applicable base salary range for this role is $250,000 to $265,000. The base pay offered will be determined based on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, and education. Decisions will be determined on a case‑by‑case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance‑based incentives. We offer a competitive total rewards package that includes health and welfare benefits, tuition assistance, 401(k) savings and other retirement programs as well as employee assistance programs.
