Senior Subject Matter Expert (SME) – DARPA MTO
Amentum is seeking a Senior Subject Matter Expert to support the development and execution of programs and strategy in DARPA’s Microsystems Technology Office (MTO) in Arlington, VA. This full‑time position requires on‑site work and approximately 20% domestic travel. Salary ranges from $175K to $250K depending on qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities
Provide Systems Engineering and Technical Assistance (SETA) to DARPA in advanced technology, research, and prototype demonstration programs.
Offer technical and strategic support to DARPA Program Managers, leadership, performers, integrated product teams, and associated R&D communities across industry, academia, and government.
Support in identifying, developing, and implementing new program concepts.
Provide program management and acquisition support.
Leverage knowledge of the full lifecycle of advanced R&D programs, from concept development and requirements definition through prototyping, testing, evaluation, and transition to operational capability.
Translate requirements into technology research and development objectives.
Perform independent technical assessments of new technologies and system designs, including evaluation of alternatives, trade studies, and cost‑benefit analyses.
Support program activities, including attending biweekly calls, major reviews, drafting programmatic documentation for DARPA, transition partners, and attending transition partner meetings.
Support technical interchange meetings and design reviews.
Support program experimentation and testing efforts, preparing experiment/test plans and coordinating with performers, government agents, and test facilities.
Author program briefings, technical documentation, and reports.
Minimum Requirements
Master of Science degree in a relevant engineering, scientific, or technological discipline.
At least 20 years of relevant experience.
Active Secret security clearance; U.S. citizenship required.
Recognized expertise in a highly specified scientific area.
Judgement ability to advise senior government personnel on complex technical matters.
Demonstrated independent decision‑making on R&D engineering problems and planning.
Experience using advanced techniques, theories, precepts, and practices in a scientific or technological discipline.
Professionalism, maturity, sound judgement, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interactions with government program managers and executive audiences.
Highly Desired Attributes
PhD degree in a relevant engineering, scientific, or technological discipline.
Active Top Secret security clearance with SCI access capability; U.S. citizenship required.
Experience with DoD stakeholders, combatant commands, and defense industry partners.
Experience with basic and applied research and prior DARPA Program Manager or senior SETA contractor roles.
Experience managing R&D programs from inception to closeout.
Fifteen years of extensive knowledge of one or more DARPA programs.
Five years of experience working with DARPA Program Managers.
Compensation
$175,000 – $200,000. Actual compensation may vary based on responsibilities, experience, and other factors.
