
Surgical Technologist II

Job Description Summary: The surgical technologist prepares surgical set‑up for procedures; observes and anticipates the needs of the surgeon during the procedure; functions within a sterile field; functions as a surgical assistant.
Our facility boasts nine fully equipped operating rooms, including two dedicated to da Vinci XI robotic surgeries and a Mako orthopedic robot for total joint surgeries. We support a wide variety of surgical specialties such as ENT, Gynecology (GYN), Ophthalmology, General Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Cystoscopy (Cysto), Podiatry, and Endovascular Surgery Suite.
Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 Hr. (5x8 hrs. or 4x10 hrs.). Will consider 36 Hr (3x12) also.
Call Shift: This position does have call requirements and is subject to staffing needs.

Job Summary

Work Environment
Works primarily in a clinical setting. May be exposed to infectious, contagious, or blood‑borne diseases, hazardous anesthetic agents, body fluids, and waste, electrical/mechanical/power equipment hazards, burns, cuts, and accidental injury or illness.
Essential Functions
Drapes patients for surgical procedures and assists the surgical team during operative procedure.
Cleans and prepares rooms between procedures and after terminal cleaning.
Maintains and cares for equipment supplies.
Documents maintenance and repairs and troubleshoots equipment needs when necessary.
Performs assisting duties within the scope of a practicing CST Level II.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
Physical requirements are primarily related to essential functions. The candidate must be able to stand up to twelve hours, walk, sit, use hands, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, talk, hear, and smell. Must lift 50 pounds 50% of the time and up to 100 pounds 50% of the time to move anesthetized patients. Must possess fine manual dexterity for operative assistance and have clear vision at 20 inches or less, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Mental Requirements
Must read and interpret business or safety manuals, clinical or technical procedures or regulations. Ability to write reports, correspondence, and/or manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, patients, families, other employees, and medical staff. Must possess basic math functions. Listener understands verbal communication. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Population Served
Primary interactions with all age groups, genders, and ethnicities to provide direct patient care. Staff must demonstrate knowledge and skill necessary to meet physical, psycho/social, educational, safety, cultural, and related needs.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited surgical technology program or military program and a minimum of one year of experience as a Certified Surgical Technologist. The Level II practitioner demonstrates higher critical thinking and problem‑solving skills and has met Level I criteria. Credentialed as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (formerly LCC‑ST) and must be maintained. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification required.
