The Designer position is responsible for operating with minimal supervision while completing project designs and submittals. The designer is expected to be very familiar with SFS’s quality documents, procedures, and work instructions as they relate to the design function.
Responsibilities

Design automatic sprinkler systems including fire pumps, tanks, wet, dry, pre-action, and deluge systems using working knowledge of fire sprinkler codes.
Perform hydraulic calculations for each design.
Prepare submittal packages to send to the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) and corresponding communications to achieve design approval.
Participate in coordination meetings with contractors.
Participate in design kick-off meetings.
With assistance from the Design Manager, a Senior Sprinkler Designer, or others, prepare fabrication lists for pipe fabrication vendors and requisition materials for the job.
With assistance from the Design Manager, a Senior Sprinkler Designer, or others, perform field surveys to ensure design is appropriate for the structure.
Assist field personnel with design-related installation issues.
Prepare and submit final job close-out documents after final acceptance testing.
Understand and follow SFS’s Safety program, SDS book, Hazardous communication program, policies and procedures. Employee must know where all related safety documentation is at all times on each project.
Periodically attend seminars or similar education/training sessions to stay abreast of latest technology, codes, and standards changes.
Communicate with internal and external customers in a professional manner.
Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications

HS Diploma or equivalent required.
NICET II or NICET III and/or state required certification required. Equivalent experience will be considered assuming individual pursues NICET education.
1-2 years’ experience as sprinkler designer, required.
Construction experience, mechanical aptitude, and math skills (basic and advanced) required.
Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English with employees and customers.
Ability to operate a computer with Microsoft Office required; familiarity with HydraCad and/or other CAD software is preferred.
Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record required.
Must comply with SFS’s Drug and Alcohol policy and background screening requirements, which may include customer-specific requirements based on contractual agreement.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit for long periods. The employee will occasionally bend, kneel, balance, lift up to 20 lb, walk, stand, climb stairs, drive, twist, and reach above and below shoulders. The employee will frequently drive and walk for extended periods. The employee will work indoors in an office setting and may work outside, exposed to hot/cold temperatures, dust, fumes, chemicals, electrical hazards, and noise. Personal protective equipment will be worn as required by company safety policies while visiting locations.
