Job Goal
Assist the teacher with supervision, care, and instruction of students with special needs in the general education setting; assist in implementing plans for instruction; monitor student behavior; and provide information to appropriate school personnel.

Performance Responsibilities

Act as a mandated reporter to ensure student safety.

Adapt classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the supervising teacher’s direction to support classroom objectives and meet IEP goals.

Administer tests, homework, and make‑up work to support student needs in the classroom.

Assist students with personal hygiene and care needs (e.g., diapering, lifting, transitioning from desk to wheelchair).

Attend meetings and in‑service presentations to acquire and convey job‑related information.

Communicate with supervising instructional staff, healthcare professionals, and support personnel to share progress or implement IEP objectives.

Escort students (e.g., bathroom, classroom, community) to ensure efficient and safe travel to and from destinations.

Implement research‑based interventions under an assigned teacher’s supervision to reinforce learning concepts.

Intervene in potential conflicts using appropriate physical or therapeutic approaches to diffuse confrontations and minimize disruptions.

Monitor students’ daily schedules and behavior plans to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.

Provide instruction under an assigned teacher’s supervision in individual and group activities to reinforce instructional objectives, implement IEP plans, and ensure students’ access to their least restrictive environment.

Supervise individual or groups of students in various settings (e.g., community field trips, hallways, bus loading areas, cafeteria, parking lots, classrooms) to maintain safety and positivity.

Supervise and escort students during emergency drills or actual emergencies to ensure safety.

Collect data on students’ IEP goals to maintain accurate records and support data‑based decision making.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Academic Requirements
Minimum of sixty (60) academic credit hours from an accredited institution of higher education, or an associate degree (or higher), or a high school diploma (or equivalent) in conjunction with ready‑to‑work credentials.

Assessment Requirements

WIN: Copy of WIN Assessment – minimum of Silver: Level 4 or higher.

Work Keys: Copy of passing scores on three Work Keys Assessment areas—Applied Mathematics (4), Reading for Information (4), Writing (4).

ParaPro: Copy of passing score (minimum 456) on ParaPro, the state‑approved academic assessment.
