Summary
Seeking a Rheumatologist to perform administrative and clinical duties in association with the Chief – Medicine Service and office staff. The Rheumatologist works within the Rheumatology Section of the Specialty Care Service. Clinical oversight is provided by the section Chief of Rheumatology. The Rheumatologist is responsible for providing inpatient/outpatient rheumatology consults and follow‑up, evaluating patients with a variety of rheumatologic conditions, and performing rheumatology procedures.

Qualifications

United States Citizenship: Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.

Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.

Residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs leading to eligibility for board certification.

Board certified or board eligible.

5+ years experience.

Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Physical: Applicants must be physically and mentally able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Depending on duties, usable vision, color vision, hearing or speech may be required. Specific conditions may be compensated for by a prosthesis or mechanical aid.

Residents in ACGME/AOA accredited programs who meet basic requirements may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), subject to licensing and intermittent fee‑basis restrictions.

Duties & Responsibilities

Provide inpatient and outpatient rheumatology consults and follow‑up; perform rheumatology procedures.

Review and examine patients with fellows and clinical pharmacists.

Screen no‑shows, contact patients for abnormal lab results, review refill requests.

Provide ongoing care for patients with a wide variety of rheumatologic conditions.

Possibly engage in research duties per supervisory alignment.

Complete tasks and duties assigned by direct supervisor or supervisory alignment.

Adhere to VHA and Medical Center policies and regulations as well as Medical Staff bylaws.

Adhere to the Medicine Department's goals of productivity and utilization.

Complete mandatory training, credentialing procedures, and chart reviews.

Provide oversight to Rheumatology fellows and trainees.

Work Schedule
