Associate Professor of Interior Design

Salary Range: $90,000 - $100,000 (Based on discipline)

The Interior Design Program of the Department of Design and Planning (DDP) in the School of Architecture and Planning (SA+P) at Morgan State University invites applications for a full‑time, tenure‑track or tenured associate professor, who will also serve as the Interior Design program director. The position is a 9.5‑month appointment (effective August 2025) with the opportunity to earn an additional one‑month stipend to administer the program during the summer.

Responsibilities:

Serve as program director for INTD, including administration of curriculum, teaching assignments, recruitment, advising, student outcomes assessment, accreditation process, liaison to Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA), program promotion, fundraising, and relationships with professional bodies.

Teach interior design courses and, if possible, courses in other SA+P disciplines such as BS in Architecture and Environmental Design.

Build and sustain a scholarly research agenda appropriate for a tenure‑track or tenured faculty line, including publication in peer‑reviewed journals and books, external grant activity, and impactful creative work.

Contribute to department, school, and university service and support strategic goals.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Other Characteristics

Administrative and leadership experience managing curriculum, faculty assignments, student advising, and accreditation.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience working with diverse student body and colleagues.

Evidence of curriculum development and program enhancement.

Required Minimum Qualifications

A terminal degree from an accredited Interior Design program or closely‑aligned field (MS, MFA, MARCH). A PhD is a plus.

Professional licensure/certification (NCIDQ) or ability to attain within three years of employment.

Demonstrated excellence in teaching, research, and university service.

Minimum of two years in an academic or professional leadership capacity and five years in interior design, architecture or related practice.

Prior administrative experience managing teams, building consensus and resolving conflicts.

Experience with the CIDA accreditation process.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Evidence of experience in curriculum development and program enhancement.

Other Preferences for Consideration

A PhD in Interior Design, Architecture, Urban Planning or other SA+P discipline.

Ability to instruct at least one additional SA+P discipline.

Track record of acquiring external funding.

Track record of leading transdisciplinary projects.

Peer‑reviewed publications in top tier journals.
