Department And University Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of the full‑time Diagnostic Sonography Program Clinical Coordinator in the Radiologic and Imaging Sciences Programs of the Indiana University School of Medicine, Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences are teaching and service. Teaching may involve classroom, laboratory or clinical courses at the undergraduate level. Service is rendered through administrative and committee responsibilities at the Program, School and University levels and through community and professional activities. Faculty pursue personal development through continuing education, work toward advanced degrees and patient interaction that will maintain and improve skills. Specific faculty responsibilities are assigned by the Director of the Radiologic and Imaging Sciences Programs and include, but are not limited to, the following:

Teaching in those areas to which the faculty member is most suited by education and experience

Counseling of professional and pre‑professional students

Assisting the Director in the administration of the program through contributions during faculty meetings, service on program committees and the completion of assigned projects

Contributing to the University through service on School and University committees

Participating in sufficient continuing learning experiences and/or patient care interactions to remain competent in the field

Representing Radiologic and Imaging Sciences Programs by providing accurate and appropriate communication to all constituents of the Programs, School and University

Participating in Program and School level continuing education activities

Submitting annual goals related to teaching and service

Lead and direct the IU School of Medicine Radiology Resident Ultrasound training program

Clinical Coordination Responsibilities

Planning and directing the daily operations related to delivery of all clinical experience activities

Developing a common syllabus for all clinical experience courses

Administering and updating the Clinical Competency Records Database

Developing and publishing all clinical experience schedules, in consultation with the program director and the clinical faculty

Developing the methods used for evaluating students and measuring clinical progress

Developing the methods used for students to evaluate each clinical site, course, faculty member, etc

Developing clinical activities that compliment/extend the sonography clinical experience

Responsible for coordinating clinical education with didactic course work in conjunction with the program director and other faculty

Organizing and assigning tasks to faculty for labs conducted as part of the clinical experience

Serving as first‑line leader for the clinical faculty, to assist in solving students issues related to performance or behavior in the clinical experience courses

Recommending changes for policies and procedures used for clinical courses

Assisting the program director in reviewing effectiveness of existing clinical education sites and developing new clinical sites as needed

Verifying all student orientation documentation is submitted, validated, and documented

Taking corrective action with students with incomplete or inaccurate orientation documentation

Didactic Instructor Responsibilities

Designing, implementing, and instructing all course activities and assignments

Developing and implementing a course syllabus for each didactic course taught

Developing methods used for evaluating students and measuring student educational progress

Implementing course design in the Canvas Learning Management System

Lab Instructor Responsibilities

Instructing and directing all lab activities for Medical Sonography students

Designing and implementing lab assignments and course work

Developing and implementing a course syllabus for each lab course

Developing methods used for evaluating students and measuring student educational progress

Implementing course design in the Canvas Learning Management System

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications

Minimum, baccalaureate degree; Master’s degree preferred (must complete Master’s degree within 2 years of hire).

Individuals with a bachelor’s degree will be appointed as Acting Lecturer until master’s degree has been completed. Upon master’s degree completion, the appointment will be updated to Assistant Professor of Clinical Radiologic.

Current or previous teaching experience in a large, University‑based medical imaging program

Is qualified to teach sonography curriculum

Is proficient in curriculum development, supervision, instruction, evaluation, and academic advising

Documents, at a minimum, four years clinical experience in the professional discipline (preferred)

Documents, at a minimum, two years of experience as an instructor in a diagnostic medical sonography program (preferred)

Holds American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) current registration in radiography (preferred)

Holds American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) current registration in Abdomen. Additional sonography registries encouraged (i.e. OB, Vascular Technology, Breast Sonography, Pediatric Sonography); OR Holds ARRT current registration in a post‑primary sonography modality.
