Job Description
This pharmacy technician role is for experienced technicians with hospital, retail, or other pharmacy practice backgrounds. Under pharmacist supervision, technicians support sterile, non-sterile, and hazardous medication preparation, delivery, and safety practices while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The role also involves developing proficiency in pharmacy automation, electronic medical records, and the safe handling of controlled and hazardous medications and communication with other healthcare professionals.
Proficient in the use of various pharmacy automation systems and electronic medical records
Responsible for medication preparation and delivery, including controlled dangerous substances and hazardous medications
Responsible for the safe and accurate preparation of non-sterile and sterile medications according to USP 795, 797 and 800 guidelines
Handle hazardous medications according to USP 800 guidelines
Follow proper medication safety practices (e.g., look-alike/sound-alike drugs, high-alert medications, expirations and recalls, temperature and humidity documentation)
Assist in training of pharmacy personnel, when appropriate
Demonstrate excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and teamwork
Qualifications
Education/Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent required
Hospital Pharmacy experience preferred
PTCB or NHA certification active or to be acquired within 6 months of hire
Current active registration with the State Board of Pharmacy required
