Job Summary
Perform phlebotomy procedures to obtain specimens for laboratory testing. Transport, process, and perform clerical duties as necessary for testing on patient samples. Reports to: Lead Phlebotomist, Lab Manager and Laboratory Director.
What You Will Do in This Role
You will greet patients and instruct them in proper specimen collection methods.
You will draw blood specimens from patients by using finger sticks, heel sticks or venipunctures and collect other specimens as required.
You will label specimens for identification purposes accurately and enter specimen data into the computer.
You will prepare samples for microbiology, hematology, serology, blood bank, and urinalysis departments.
You will assist with clerical duties by answering telephone calls.
Licensure / Certification / Registration
High school diploma or GED required.
Minimum 6 months phlebotomy experience required or certification through a clinical phlebotomy program may be considered in lieu of experience.
Acute care hospital experience is strongly preferred.
Skilled phlebotomy technique; BLS within 30 days of hire.
