Systems Engineer
Orbis Group, New York, NY, United States
Up to $300,000 + Equity | New York City
Most infrastructure roles today mean Kubernetes, Terraform, and cloud dashboards.
This one doesn’t.
We’re partnered with a high-calibre team building infrastructure from the ground up, no AWS, no GCP, no Kubernetes. Just real systems engineering on bare metal. They’re working on high-performance infrastructure powering AI workloads, where low-level optimization and control over compute really matters.
If you’ve been craving something deeper than cloud abstractions, this is it.
What you’ll actually be doing
Working directly with bare metal servers (no cloud layer)
Building and maintaining core infrastructure systems in Go
Debugging issues at the OS, networking, and performance level
Creating internal tooling from scratch, not stitching together SaaS
This is hands-on, low-level work where understanding matters more than tooling.
You’ll thrive here if you:
Are highly proficient in Go (Golang)
Enjoy digging into how systems really work
Prefer building infrastructure over configuring it
Have experience with distributed systems, networking, or performance-critical systems
You might be someone who:
Has gone deep into debugging issues others avoid
Thinks modern infra has become too abstracted
Wants to get closer to the metal again
The Team
You’ll be working alongside engineers with backgrounds in:
Early infrastructure at major tech companies
High-growth start-ups and deep systems environments
Performance-critical and large-scale systems
It’s a small, serious team that values depth, not buzzwords.
If you want to:
Work on real infrastructure without cloud abstractions
Be surrounded by engineers who care about systems at a fundamental level
