Position Overview
We are looking for a motivated Underground Core Driller’s Assistant / Helper to support drilling crews underground. In this role, you’ll assist the Driller with core handling, rig setup, maintenance tasks, and operating under the challenging conditions of underground mines. This is a physically demanding role in confined spaces, and you should be ready for extended underground shifts.

Key Responsibilities

Assist the Driller in operation and maintenance of underground core drilling rigs and associated tooling

Handle and package core samples, rods, casings, and tooling safely and efficiently

Support drilling station setup, relocation, and breakdown, including rig moves underground

Perform general site cleanup and housekeeping around drill sites

Participate in pre-shift inspections, safety meetings, and hazard assessments

Maintain adequate lighting, ventilation, and water control near drill stations

Operate small equipment or vehicles (e.g. carts, conveyors) under supervision

Perform routine maintenance, lubrication, and minor repairs as directed

Follow all MSHA, company, and client safety protocols and procedures

Assist with sample logging, data entry, and documentation as needed

Qualifications & Requirements

Some experience in mining, underground work, construction, or drilling assistance

Strong willingness to learn; mechanical aptitude a plus

Physically fit — able to lift 100+ lbs, work in confined spaces, crouch, climb, and endure long shifts

Comfortable working underground in variable conditions (darkness, dust, humidity)

Valid driver’s license, clean driving record

Ability to pass pre-employment drug test, background check, and physicalGood communication skills and ability to follow direction precisely

Commitment to safety and ability to work as part of a team

Work Schedule & Conditions

Rotational schedules typical: 14 on / 14 off, or 20 on / 10 off (per mine schedule)

12-hour shifts underground

Work in tight, confined spaces, sometimes wet or dusty

PPE provided (helmet, boots, respirator, lights, etc.)

Travel and underground camp accommodations provided

Exposure to underground hazards: rock, noise, vibration, dust, humidity
