Responsibilities
Provide respiratory care to patients of all ages in accordance with current applicable Federal, State, and local standards, guidelines, regulations, and established policies and procedures as directed by the Administrator, to assure the highest quality of care and safety.
Deliver emergency room and outpatient therapy; manage cardiopulmonary resuscitation; perform atrial puncture and pH blood gas analysis; administer oxygen therapy with prescribed appliances.
Provide therapeutic treatments including BiPAP, aerosol nebulization, chest physiotherapy, postural drainage, heated high humidity, incentive spirometry, and other prescribed respiratory care.
Initiate and monitor long-term mechanical ventilation and transport; perform endotracheal suctioning; manage airway and stabilize prior to patient transport.
Perform electrocardiograms and pulmonary function studies; participate in multidisciplinary rounds; monitor end-tidal CO2.
Attend high-risk deliveries and scheduled cesarean sections; educate patients, families, and professional staff; coordinate with other clinical services.
Participate in in-service education programs, attend workshops and seminars, and stay current with changes in health care; maintain professional status.
Utilize EPIC EMR documentation system; maintain safety standards for patient care and equipment; monitor equipment condition.
Follow infection control procedures and comply with Employee Health policies; recommend equipment and supply needs for the department to the manager.
Ensure the therapy area is maintained in a clean and safe manner; involve patient and family in planning treatment and identifying goals and outcomes; allow patient participation in scheduling treatments.
Review complaints and grievances from patients, families, or visitors; contribute to improving patient experience and department operation.
Education & Experience
Education Requirements : Degree from an AMA and BBRC approved school of Respiratory Therapy; Registered with the National Board for Respiratory Care, Inc.; currently licensed in Massachusetts; maintains license as necessary.
Experience : Three years' practical experience in cardio-pulmonary capacity in a hospital, skilled nursing facility, or other related medical facility; training in cardiopulmonary rehabilitation therapy practice.
