Mary Free Bed at Covenant Health Care provides inpatient rehabilitation care for patients in the Saginaw and surrounding regions. RNs working in this location have the opportunity to receive support from both organizations and are expected to follow all applicable policies and procedures that apply to our work. In this job description, the term "Nursing Department" refers to all care and responsibilities that the nursing staff provide to the patients that we serve.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities include coordinating, directing, delegating, and providing care to multiple patients within a patient- and family-centered care approach. Each RN develops relationships with patients, families, and colleagues to enhance the quality of care. Nursing care is performed with compassion and courtesy, and each RN is responsible to follow departmental policies and service standards. Patient and family education is a primary focus of rehabilitation nursing.

Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in the assigned department and to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret information needed to identify each patient’s age-specific needs.

- The RN is responsible for all nursing care provided to patients. Through assessment, interdisciplinary collaboration, and critical thinking, the RN develops and/or follows a patient-centered plan of care. The RN coordinates care for non-licensed staff through delegation and follow-up to ensure compliance with policies.

- Participate in performance improvement, identify ways to improve care, report unexpected events or near misses, and assist in data collection and documentation audits.

Qualifications

Licensure:

Registered nurse in the state of Michigan.
Education:

Associate’s degree in nursing required; Bachelor’s degree preferred. Certification as a Registered Rehabilitation Nurse is preferred and encouraged.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Experience
Previous RN experience, especially in rehabilitation or acute care, is preferred but not required.
Strong critical thinking, decision-making, delegation, and leadership skills are required.
Time management and organizational skills, effective written and verbal communication.
Ability to work under time constraints, solve problems, handle interruptions, and prioritize.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

The following describe the work environment as a nurse at Mary Free Bed. Tasks may include:
Stand, sit, talk, type, read, and hear
Use hands and arms to handle, feel, carry and work
Stand, walk, bend, kneel, and rise from a kneeling position during patient care
Independently mobilize with frequent bending and reaching to position and transfer patients and equipment
Occasionally exert 20–35 pounds; frequently 10–25 pounds; constant up to 10 pounds
Possible exposure to blood-borne pathogens; follow safety policies
Competent with computer systems for documenting patient care
