Field Engineering Technician – Atlanta, GA (Fully Remote)
Summary:
The key role of the Mad Dash Field Engineering Technician is to provide field-based support of customer installations, commissioning and assist with troubleshoot/repair of energy monitoring systems that include electrical, gas, and water. This position requires frequent overnight travel throughout the month combined with a local field schedule. Travel schedule will be as frequent as 75% of time overnight in one month.
Technical Duties and Responsibilities
Install, program, and configure interval data recorders, power monitoring meters, and other energy monitoring related hardware
Install smart thermostats and have basic knowledge of HVAC units
Install telecommunications hardware such as cellular modems, hotspots, and familiarity with Local Area Network (LAN) connectivity to insure communications of attached devices and their data uploads
Install low voltage wiring for Modbus and BACnet protocols, temperature sensors, and other energy monitoring related systems
Commissioning and re-commissioning of installed interval data recorders, power monitoring meters, and other hardware that was installed at customer locations
Troubleshooting and repair of installed hardware; device failures, data issues, communications failures and other hardware related issues
Ability to wire current transformers
Ability to bend and install conduit following NEC standards
Ability to understand the theory of and installation of basic electrical components such as relays, contactors, and circuit breakers following NEC standards
Ability to read and comprehend electrical and control diagrams, blue prints, schematics, technical drawings, work orders, instructions and formulas
Assist with diagnose installation errors and hardware defects
Operate and maintain Mad Dash vehicle
Track and record job progress and keep lead operations support team informed on site progress, including concerns or issues while on site
Track and report inventory items used
Arrive at all scheduled dispatches in a timely manner
Follow all established processes and procedures
Maintain professional demeanor with clients and customers including contractors, maintenance staff, property managers, and tenants
Proficient with technology: smart phones, iPad, tablets, laptops, cloud-based storage, and email
Must have knowledge of and follow the NEC and OSHA safety standards
Training for continuous improvement and development
Assembly of various prefabricated enclosures
Requirements
Physical and Environmental Requirements
Ability to safely use and climb ladders, indoors and outdoors, as required for site
Ability to work both indoors and outdoors (all weather conditions) on a daily basis
Recognizes exposure to live circuits and/or operating machinery
Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, walk up and down stairs, bend down, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and work at floor level for extended period of time
Repetitive motion with both hands, wrists and fingers
Comfortable working in/ on spaces such as roofs, attics or basements
Ability to adapt to changing work schedules and environments
Hours may include nights and/or weekends
Travel Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and meet Mad Dash’s auto safety standards
Ability to travel by air and car, travel can be up to 75% overnight traveling during the month, depending on project
Education/Skills
High School Diploma required plus a minimum of Associates Degree, Trade School Certificate / Diploma, or Skilled Trades Apprenticeship with minimum of 2 years field experience
Experience with electrical and mechanical components and systems
Experience with residential and commercial HVAC systems
Experience in installation methods for low voltage cable
Knowledge in interfacing with building and HVAC controls / systems preferred
Knowledge in Modbus, BACnet, and other communications protocols preferred but not required
