Job Description
Develops, specifies, integrates, and installs computer based data collection instrumentation suites including sensors (accelerometers, gyros, thermocouples, strain gauges, load cells, pressure transducers, torque sensors, humidity probes, encoders, optical sensors, electromagnetic, magnetic, displacements, electrostatic, RADAR, RF, LASER, BUS monitors, communication networks, GPS, etc.) on dynamic and static test items. This includes designing and manufacturing brackets, supports and sensor mounting apparatuses. Measures, understands, and validates sensors outputs and electrical measurements based on digital data acquisition techniques (anti‑aliasing, oversampling, Nyquist rates, A/D conversion, sensitivity, resolution, and accuracy). Determines engineering and physical science properties through measurement validation. Performs data analysis using plotting techniques and compiles data recording programs through provided software. Utilizes prior experience, test plan, and engineering data to select appropriate sensing devices for use with data collection systems. Provides onsite support and testing of test items while monitoring and validating data using real‑time monitoring techniques. Forms schedules, instructs, and provides guidance to subordinate personnel while aiding higher and lateral personnel. Demonstrates good customer service attributes. Performs other duties as required to complete the assigned mission. This position is covered under the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Qualifications
29 Pay Rate: $39.21

Education / Licenses / Certifications / Experience Requirements

Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.

Must have one of the following: 10 years related experience or a Bachelor's degree in related field and 3 years instrumentation related experience, or an Associate's degree / Military training in a related field and 5 years instrumentation related experience.

Experience operating data loggers including modifying settings, configurations, and programming.

Instrumentation experience and understanding of Automotive Technology.

Engineering background with an understanding of automotive performance and data collection techniques.

Mechanical and metal fabrication experience.

Soldering experience.

Experience with Campbell, LabVIEW, MATLAB, ORIGIN or other data analysis tools.

Job Skills Requirements

Must understand physics and mechanical movements.

Must have a sound operational knowledge of computers and networking.

Competent sensor selection without senior technician guidance.

Demonstrated leadership and sets the example to other personnel.

Successfully represents section in oral and written communication with customers.

Wireless Radio / Modem programming and set‑up experience.

Responsible for collateral duties.

Aids senior technicians with research and development of new instrumentation capabilities.

Physical Requirements

Must pass a pre‑employment drug screening and physical and periodic retests.

Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) for work tasks assigned.

Must be capable of working in extreme weather conditions including summer temperatures peaking around 120°F.

Must be able to lift 50 lbs. unassisted and capable of climbing up and into large vehicles up to 8‑10 feet high.

Must be capable of kneeling, bending and standing while performing maintenance duties.

Must be able to distinguish colors.

Must be able to work long hours in a desert environment.

Must meet the physical requirements necessary to perform operations outlined, performed, and stated in the SOPs for Auto Instrumentation.

Additional Desirable Qualifications

Experience using Campbell Scientific CR9000 & DEWESoft Datalogger hardware.

Must be able to obtain a security clearance prior to employment and maintain security clearance for the duration of employment.
