Job Description
Produce highly engineered, specialized, and innovative maintenance-of-way equipment for rail-related markets, by using mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic assembly techniques as well as welding, electrical wiring and hitching on overhead cranes and jibs.
Responsibilities
Assembly Principal Duties
Read and follow standard work, BOM’s, blueprints, routings, specifications and other diagrams/instructions in order to build and assemble parts and equipment in an accurate and timely fashion
Obtain necessary tools and equipment
Handle material, tools and equipment manually or with jib crane, performing own hitching as required
Follows piping diagrams or other instructions to connect hydraulic/pneumatic hosing or piping accurately and timely
Maintain high quality standards
Consistently maintains level of productivity as determined by management
Spray paint parts as required
Layout, cut and fit parts as required to weld in place
Prepare machinery for shipping
Rebuild machinery and clean, repair, disassemble, reassemble, and adjust machine as necessary
Wiring Principal Duties
Follow wiring diagrams/schematics to connect electrical cabling accurately and timely
Perform wiring sequence for point to point direct or harness wiring
Wire mounting panels and junction boxes per documentation/instructions
Create or re-wire harnesses and cables per documentation
Welding Principal Duties
Determine from drawings, information or standard practice, the welding sequence, type and size of electrode, machine settings and tools required
Perform fit up and related layout, and welding
Make allowance for distortion during fit up and weld
Change gas cylinders, wire reels, cables, gas lines, wire holder and wire
General Duties
Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations. Maintain departmental housekeeping standards.
Ability to fabricate small components
Complete production and quality assurance forms
Participate actively in team meetings and group discussions.
Interface with engineering to accurately communicate information
Actively participate in continuous improvement activities or events as required
Adhere to Quality Management System Requirements
5S activities
Ability to read and comprehend procedures written in English
Familiarity with personal computers
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Education
H.S. Diploma or equivalent
Experience
Previous experience with similar responsibilities
Trade school classes may be substituted for experience.
Technical Skills
Ability to operate computer to check schedules, get prints, update manufacturing status of jobs and update employee information, obtain check stubs, etc.
Ability to read and understand blueprints, diagrams and other manufacturing instructions
Proficient in using hand tools properly and safely
Ability to use electric or pneumatic and cordless tools safely
Safely drive forklift using proper guidelines
Ability to operate a jib crane safely
Ability to layout, drill and tap holes
Previous experience wiring electrical boxes and panels and circuit breaker boards
Knowledge of voltage systems
Experience with different welding techniques
Behavioral Attributes
Keep tools, equipment and work area clean and orderly. Work in a safe manner.
Ability to work independently and as a team player with internal and external staff members
Follows instructions as directed
Be self-motivated and possess time management skills to meet production deadlines
Physical Requirements
Ability to regularly lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds
Requires full range of body motion, using all extremities, ability to walk unassisted, normal fine motor dexterity and normal strength
Normal, correctable vision ability is required
Requires the ability to frequently climb, stoop and bend.
Specific vision requirements include; close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
