Southridge Behavioral Hospital is a beautiful and new state‑of‑the‑art facility. As a joint venture with the Trinity Health System and Universal Health Services, we serve up to 96 adult and geriatric patients across four units.

Position Description
The Registered Nurse (RN) – Float provides direct patient care across multiple units within the hospital as assigned, under the direction of the CNO, Nurse Manager, or Nursing Supervisor. This position is designed to meet the daily and changing needs of the nursing department, and assignments may vary based on patient census, acuity, and staffing requirements. The Float RN must demonstrate flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to shift focus throughout the shift as needs arise while maintaining safe, efficient, and patient‑centered care in a fast‑paced environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures, and nursing standards of care.

Floats between hospital units as assigned to meet departmental needs under the direction of the CNO, Nurse Manager, or Nursing Supervisor.

Completes patient admissions and discharges, including assessments, documentation, education, and coordination of care.

Manages patient belongings according to hospital policy, ensuring accuracy, safety, and appropriate documentation.

Facilitates and/or assists with patient groups and therapeutic activities as appropriate to the unit.

Assists patients during meals, ensuring dietary orders, safety, and nutritional needs are met.

Administers medications and treatments as prescribed and in accordance with hospital policy.

Collaborates effectively with interdisciplinary team members to support patient care and treatment goals.

Maintains a safe, therapeutic, and supportive environment for patients.

Utilizes effective communication and de‑escalation techniques as needed.

Ensures accurate and timely documentation in the health record.

Adheres to all regulatory, safety, and infection control standards.

Hours and Location
Part time, 7am to 3pm or 7pm to 3am, Every other weekend included.

We are located on the south side of Grand Rapids, near the intersection of M-6 and Byron Center Ave SW: 6291 Venture Hills Boulevard SW, Byron Center, MI 49315

Qualifications
Job Requirements:

Current RN license in the state of employment, in good standing.

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

Minimum of 5 years of RN experience preferred (behavioral health).

Current BLS certification.

Ability to work independently and adapt to changing assignments and environments.

Strong clinical judgment, organizational, and communication skills.
