Ironworker Industrial Journeyman
Perform duties to raise, place, and unite girders, columns, and other structural steel members to form completed structures or structural frameworks. Must have a minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in the Industrial Ironworker craft. Other duties may be assigned.
Responsibilities
Read blueprints and select required material for construction.
Set up hoisting equipment for raising and placing structural steel members.
Fasten steel members to the cable of the hoist, using chain, cable, or rope.
Guide structures being lifted into proper position and align rivet holes with corresponding holes.
Drive drift pins through rivet holes.
Verify vertical and horizontal alignment using plumb bob and level.
Bolts aligned structures to keep them in position until permanently riveted, bolted or welded into place.
Qualifications
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; write simple correspondence; present information effectively in one-on-one and small group settings.
Ability to read and speak fluent English for safety reasons.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; resolve problems involving several concrete variables.
Certificates or licenses such as NCCER and Advanced Rigging are preferred, depending on the job site.
Travel or commute may be required.
Physical Demands
Regularly required to sit; use hands; stand; walk; climb; balance; stoop; kneel; crouch; crawl; talk; hear; taste; smell. Must regularly lift and move up to 25 pounds and may frequently lift and move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
Exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; vibration; occasional wet or humid conditions; loud noise level.
