Job Description
The Materials and Process Engineering Department, which functions within Mechanical Engineering, is looking for a Materials Engineer to join our Design and Development team in Andover, MA. This role supports program hardware design and development and production activities. The qualified candidate will have a background in evaluating materials and processes used within product design or manufacturing, support material selections during design, development, and manufacturing of hardware, and support failure analysis activities for diverse product applications. The role involves evaluating materials and validating that materials and processes meet design and program requirements, solving challenging problems with critical thinking and attention to detail. Collaboration with design engineers, manufacturing engineers, subject matter experts, and suppliers is required. The candidate must manage and coordinate a wide variety of simultaneous tasks within set schedule requirements.

What You Will Do

Evaluation of materials and processes based on conformance to specifications and design and performance requirements.

Working closely with design personnel in the selection and approval of materials and finishes in new and updated designs.

Supporting product production and supplier support activities.

Providing evaluation and resolution to technical, operational, and supplier problems related to materials and processes.

Participating in analysis and documentation of technical positions for alternate materials, obsolescence, and failure analysis.

Ensuring labor costs and estimated completion schedules provided by the Materials and Process Engineering Sections are negotiated, understood, and meet product/program commitments.

Qualifications You Must Have

Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field.

Experience in materials selection (qualification, analysis, testing, design or development).

Qualifications We Prefer

Bachelor's degree in Materials Science and Engineering.

Experience working on programs, projects, or products associated with the Defense Industry.

Experience working with engineering drawings.

Experience working with and evaluating suppliers performing special manufacturing processes.

Experience with mechanical and/or chemical analysis methods and characterization techniques.

Experience related to Material Review Boards, Material and Process Change Boards, Risk Boards, and Engineering Review Boards.

Experience with project milestones such as preliminary design reviews and critical design reviews.

Earned Valued certification or experience.

Ability to write concise technical reports summarizing analyses.

Demonstrated ability to lead and complete scientific based projects including failure analysis and obsolescence investigations.

Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Strong communication, interpersonal, planning and time management skills.

Salary Range
USD 68,900 – USD 131,100.
