Description

Under the general supervision of an assigned supervisor, perform skilled heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC&R) work and assist with skilled maintenance, repair, and construction work on campus buildings and equipment. There is currently one full-time position (12 months/year, 40 hours/week) located at Moorpark College, pending board approval. This recruitment is being conducted to establish a list of eligible candidates that will be used to fill district-wide, current and upcoming, non-bilingual and bilingual, temporary and regular vacancies for the duration of the list, not to exceed one year.
Where you’ll work

Moorpark College is one of three colleges in the Ventura County Community College District. It serves approximately 15,000 students and offers programs in transfer, career technical education, basic skills, and more. The college provides a variety of programs including nursing, radiation technology, biotechnology, and animal sciences, among others.
Representative Duties

Service, maintain, calibrate, adjust, inspect, diagnose, and repair HVAC&R systems including boilers, cooling towers, water chillers, pumps, freezers, refrigerators, air conveyance systems, fans, gas heaters, chemical and mechanical water treatment equipment, and complex hydronic systems using direct digital or analog control devices.
Test and perform water treatment in closed loop and cooling tower systems; maintain proper chemical levels.
Troubleshoot, repair, replace, and maintain components connected to a building automation system (BAS).
Monitor and adjust levels of fluids/gasses in HVAC&R systems; use refrigerant scales and recovery units; test refrigerant systems; evacuate, store, and replace refrigerants; repair or replace and purge compressors on chillers.
Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations in the purchase, use, containment, and disposal of hazardous materials; maintain service records.
Perform electrical, pneumatic, hydronic, and mechanical testing; diagnose problems; repair or replace parts; calibrate and adjust temperature controls.
Rebuild or replace HVAC&R components including water pumps, air conditioning compressors, and air compressors.
Perform brazing, soldering, and welding as needed.
Assist with skilled maintenance, repair, and construction of campus facilities and equipment in basic trades; assist other skilled trades as assigned.
Prepare and maintain records and reports related to work orders, labor, and materials.
Estimate cost, labor, and materials; order materials; maintain tools and equipment.
Provide work direction to others as assigned; participate in technical trainings; work collaboratively with diverse faculty, staff, students, and stakeholders.
Demonstrate cultural humility and equity-mindedness in working with diverse communities; model inclusive behaviors.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:
Completion of a recognized HVAC&R apprenticeship program of at least two years’ duration and four years of experience maintaining and troubleshooting industrial or large commercial HVAC&R systems, including two years with building management systems and building automation and control units.
OR completion of a recognized HVAC&R apprenticeship program of at least three years’ duration and three years of experience with the same requirements as above.
OR completion of a recognized HVAC&R apprenticeship program of at least four years’ duration and two years of experience with the same requirements as above.
OR graduation from high school or equivalent and seven years of experience maintaining and troubleshooting industrial or large commercial HVAC&R systems, including three years at journey level and two years with building management systems and building automation and control units.
Licenses and Other Requirements:
Valid California driver’s license
Possession of a valid EPA-approved refrigerant recovery certification, Type II or Universal, per EPA Rule 608
Pass an asbestos medical examination in compliance with California safety orders prior to obtaining permanent status
Supplemental Information

Examination and selection process: open to the public and current District employees. Materials must be submitted by the posted deadline.
The examination may consist of: A) Training and Experience Evaluation (qualifying), B) Technical Interview (100% of final score).
Training and Experience (T&E) Evaluation explains how candidates are scored; top candidates will be invited to the technical interview.
Technical Interview: Date range June 1, 2026 – June 5, 2026; conducted remotely via Zoom.

Eligibility list will be used to fill vacancies for up to one year from the date of the technical interview.
Probationary period: six months to one year, depending on classification.
