Position Summary
Supervise, assign, review and participate in the work of staff responsible for airfield maintenance; establish schedules and methods for providing airport maintenance services; operate a variety of heavy equipment to include but not limited to rollers, tractors, buses, backhoes and dump trucks; ensure work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures; and oversee and perform the more technical and complex tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility. This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing.
Essential and Supplemental Functions
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the functions listed below. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, review and participate in the work of staff responsible for airfield maintenance and repair.
Establish schedules and methods for providing airport maintenance services; identify resource needs; review needs with appropriate management staff; allocate resources accordingly.
Participate in the development of policies and procedures; monitor work activities to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures; make recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards and procedures.
Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives; implement approved policies and procedures.
Perform the more technical and complex tasks of the work unit including inspecting airfield for asphalt or concrete erosion, flood control, and snow removal; document discrepancies and notify higher level supervisory or management staff.
Oversee the removal of weeds from fence lines, taxiways and runways.
Inspect vehicles and/or equipment for new or existing damages; report findings to supervisory or management staff; oversee the fabrication of a variety of equipment.
Serve as on-call staff member for airport emergencies including snow removal, aircraft emergencies and related incidents.
Participate in the selection of airport maintenance staff; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; enforce discipline procedures.
Review and monitor payroll timesheets and related personnel attendance records for the assigned Airfield Maintenance shift.
Operate a variety of heavy equipment to include but not limited to rollers, tractors, buses, backhoes and dump trucks.
SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:
Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of airport maintenance.
Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Minimum Education, Experience and Additional Requirements
Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.
Associate's degree in construction management technology or business administration; and
Four (4) years of pavement maintenance or heavy equipment operating experience; and
One (1) year of supervisory or lead experience.
Journeymen electrical experience preferred, as this position oversees airfield related electrical functions.
Additional Requirements
Possession of a valid New Mexico Commercial Driver's License (CDL); class A or B.
Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire into position.
Must be able to successfully qualify for and maintain a Sunport Access Control Card as determined by the policies and guidelines of the Aviation Department and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

Airfield environment; exposure to heat, cold, noise, dust, grease, fumes, gases, inclement weather conditions.
Physical:
Essential and supplemental functions may require physical condition for light to moderate lifting and carrying, walking, standing or sitting for prolonged periods; operate motorized equipment and vehicles.
