Ultrasound Sonographer I – FLSA Status: Non‑Exempt

About the Role
We are looking for a dedicated sonographer to assist our doctors with diagnosing and monitoring various conditions. You will use high‑frequency sound waves to capture images of the body’s internal organs and tissues, working directly with patients and using advanced sonographic equipment to record the motion, shape, and composition of blood, organs, tissues, and bodily masses.

Supervision Received: Reports to Manager of Diagnostics. Supervision Exercised: None.

Responsibilities

Demonstrate mastery of sonographic practice and competency in diagnostic procedures including abdomen, small parts, GYN, breast, and vascular, ensuring clear images and adjusting equipment as necessary.

Select and evaluate images, identify differences between healthy and pathological areas, determine if the exam should be extended, and present preliminary findings to radiologists.

Document patient care according to ultrasound study history and clinical information, following quality assurance procedures as defined by the policy and procedure manual.

Explain ultrasound procedures to patients, answer questions, apply gel, and position patients on the table.

Recognize changes in patient status and communicate appropriately to the physician.

Select appropriate technical factors based on the procedure type.

Maintain a working knowledge of ultrasound equipment operation and safety protocols.

Identify and address safety hazards and legal liabilities through appropriate channels.

Provide and promote quality care to all patients.

Build and maintain effective working relationships with co‑workers, patients, and other department employees.

Support cost‑containment initiatives and recognize individual accountability.

Engage in continuous self‑improvement through clinical experience and education.

Attend in‑service education, staff meetings, and continuing education programs to maintain up‑to‑date technical knowledge; complete 30 hours of continuing education in ultrasound every three years.

Exhibit problem‑solving, prioritization, and patient‑care evaluation skills.

Adhere to departmental and office policies.

Support new staff and sonography students in learning needs.

Execute procedures requiring independent judgment with initiative.

Assess equipment breakdowns and determine service needs.

Ensure accurate billing for procedures in compliance with federal law.

Follow all ultrasound study policy and documentation requirements.

Use the Radiology Work List (RIS) and PACS system.

Keep the area and equipment clean and orderly.

Participate in safety classes and other continuing‑education offerings.

Maintain yearly CPR certification.

Location & Commitments
Permanent full‑time position at our Greenville Arlington location, Monday‑Friday: 6:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. or 8:30 a.m. – 5:15 p.m. Overtime may be required. Weekend work is rare but occasionally necessary.

Candidate Requirements
Associate’s degree or completion of a medical sonography program. Registered or eligible for registration by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) in abdomen, GYN, vascular, or breast. Two years of clinical experience preferred.
