Job Summary
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Research Technician will provide laboratory preclinical and clinical translational research assistance for optical imaging projects related to the detection, diagnosis, and surgery of various diseases including cancer, neuropathology, and cardiac disease within the OHNS laboratories of Mass Eye and Ear. The position is based in the Mass Eye and Ear Research space at SERI, 50 Staniford Street, Boston, under the supervision of Dr. Anand Kumar. The RT will work independently to coordinate human and animal research studies, assist in data analysis and research reporting, and participate in subject pre‑screening, scheduling, enrollment, and measurement execution.
Responsibilities
Assist in the execution of measurements in both laboratory and clinical settings.
Assist in building and testing novel research instruments.
Conduct data analysis and processing using a variety of tools in the MATLAB environment.
Coordinate recruitment and clinical measurements with collaborators, including communication with study subjects.
Maintain research data, patient files, regulatory binders, and study databases.
Prepare reports, presentations, and participate in manuscript preparation for publication.
Prepare IRB submissions and amendments and maintain documentation for the IRB.
Collect and maintain subject information database.
Proof‑read and edit manuscripts and grant applications.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree and at least one year of directly related post‑degree experience.
Prior programming experience preferred; experience with MATLAB is a plus.
Engineering, physical science, biology, chemistry, or medicine background with interest in biomedical engineering encouraged.
Ability to make independent effective decisions and work with minimal supervision as part of an integrated research team.
Excellent judgment and ability to interpret protocol requirements.
Excellent organizational, oral, and written communication skills.
Detail oriented, creative, and able to maintain accurate records.
High degree of professionalism, able to interact with study subjects and clinical collaborators.
Capable of handling confidential information with discretion.
Able to prioritize multiple tasks and handle fluctuating priorities and deadlines.
