Overview
Are you a structural engineer looking to make a significant impact on Pennsylvania's infrastructure? The role of Assistant Structure Control Engineer focuses on interpreting plans and specifications, reviewing demolition proposals for structures including concrete, masonry, and steel, and ensuring work meets high engineering standards. You will work as part of a team to take on meaningful tasks and solve challenges in structural projects.
Responsibilities
Support the Department’s structural engineering and construction activities as a liaison to Inspectors-in-Charge for emergency structural repairs, painting and cleaning contracts, and preventive maintenance work.
Utilize engineering judgment to guide field staff, resolve technical issues, and recommend structural design adjustments to keep construction projects on schedule.
Review bridge and structural work in progress to ensure compliance with Department standards and timelines; provide technical expertise to help IICs interpret plans, specifications, and contract requirements.
Participate in mediating disputes between contractors and inspection personnel; support the Structural Control Engineer in reviewing demolition plans; assist in directing and monitoring test pile and pile dynamic analysis activities.
Provide field support for complex structural challenges and ensure alignment with engineering best practices and Department expectations.
Qualifications
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
Six years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty; and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists;

Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty; and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; and an associate’s degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline;
Two years of professional civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
Special Requirement:
Possession of a valid driver’s license.
Other Requirements:
PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
