Join UAB Medicine’s Southview Medical Group, a long-standing multi-specialty physician practice serving Birmingham-area patients. We care for more than 51,000 unique patients each year across facilities at UAB St. Vincent’s Birmingham and UAB Medicine St. Vincent’s One Nineteen. Our team includes more than 30 providers spanning internal medicine, cardiology, infectious disease, endocrinology, and gastroenterology.
What You Will Do
Perform diagnostic procedures on patients using ultrasound waves to examine tissue and body structure, providing quality images for interpretation.
Set up and adjust equipment and manually maneuver transducers to perform exams.
Implement safety standards and perform appropriate quality control procedures.
Perform routine and complex studies and assist in a variety of cardiac and/or vascular imaging procedures.
Recognize significant structures, artifacts, pathology and equipment limitations.
Ensure equipment is properly functioning; report potential problems or equipment malfunctions to appropriate personnel; lock/tag out equipment if appropriate.
Ensure prompt submission of high-quality images and documents sent to PACS (image quality, correct lead markers and patient data/history).
Assist in maintaining a clean and orderly department, including procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, film storage area and other areas in the department.
Maintain compliance with regulatory agencies.
Performs other duties as assigned.
What You Will Need
Licensure / Certification / Registration
BLS Provider obtained within 1 month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
One or more of the following required:
A Cardiographic Sonographer credential issued by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) must be obtained prior to hire or within 12 months (1 year) of hire date. Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) credential issued by CCI is also accepted.
Radiologic Technologist specializing in Radiography credentialed from ARRT obtained prior to or within 12 months (1 year) of hire date.
Radiologic Technologist specializing in Sonography credentialed from ARRT obtained prior to or within 12 months (1 year) of hire date.
Vascular Technologist (VT) credentialed from ARDMS obtained prior to hire date.
Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) credentialed from ARDMS obtained within 12 months (1 year) of hire date.
Education
High School Diploma or Equivalent with 2 years of experience or Associate’s degree required. Graduate of an accredited sonography program preferred.
