
Welding Supervisor

The Welding Supervisor assists Management in coordinating, monitoring welding activities in the Field and Workshop. The Welding Supervisor trains and actively supports the welding repair operation, liaising with OEM MCC on possible repair procedures and personally performing welding repairs. The Welding Supervisor must enforce strict welding standards and procedures set out by OEM MCC and Liebherr USA.
Responsibilities
Lays out metal stock or workpieces to indicate location, dimensions, and tolerances necessary for further processing.
Reads and applies blueprints, sketches, models, or other written specifications to identify and mark component reference points and compute layout dimensions to build and check custom work pieces and assemblies.
Uses measuring instruments such as gauge blocks, height gauges, dial indicators and non-contact dimensional scanning technology to examine workpieces to verify such requirements as dimensions, proper angles and specifications.
Initiates and supervises training using AWS CWI standards.
Trains new welders using LH standards and ISO standards in coordination with OEM MCC standards.
Able to obtain LWN welding certification.
Able to hold United States AWS D1.1 certification.
Able to use a computer system to locate parts necessary to make repairs on Liebherr equipment.
Knowledge of ERP system.
Able to train welders to hand fit tubes.
Trains and supervises how to complete repairs correctly.
Maintains contact with customers on repairs needed.
Maintains contact with factory on bigger repairs.
Schedules repairs with priority needs in mind for the shop floor.
Schedules repairs with priority needs in the field.
Travels to different locations in the US to make repairs.
Orders supplies needed to make sure welders don’t run out of consumables.
Pulls drawings for welding repairs.
Enforces and complies with 6S procedures and policies.
Makes parts list for quotes that will be given to customers.
Keeps welders informed on coming jobs.
Obtains the skills and knowledge needed to complete repairs.
Inspects damaged equipment in shop and field.
Manages direct reports and repair welders.
Responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of the repair welding team.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
Enforces and complies with 6S procedures and policies.
Interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Competencies
High school diploma or GED (2-year degree is preferred) with 5-7 years of experience in the GMAW or SMAW and TIG welding process. CWI Certification required.
CWI-Standards and inspection techniques (AWS codes, visual inspections, basics of NDT. VT Certification, MP or PT certification).
Travel domestically and internationally up to 50% of the time.
Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver license and passport.
