What to Expect
Tesla is seeking an ambitious Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Technician to collaborate with Battery Cell manufacturing, engineering, maintenance, and facilities leaders and advise on a wide range of EHS disciplines. This EHS Technician will play a leading role in implementing applicable EHS Programs, conducting risk assessments, performing inspections, investigating incidents, reporting event learnings, providing training, and facilitating risk reduction projects. The EHS Technician will perform work individually and in cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement for the Battery Cell Manufacturing program in Austin, TX.
The EHS Technician will be responsible for complex technical work across a broad range of EHS disciplines with an emphasis on reducing risk, empowering stakeholders, and doing the basics right. They will also ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations, and conformance to internal, industry and consensus standards, as appropriate.
What You'll Do
Perform regular workplace inspections to identify hazards and unsafe work conditions, document findings, and recommend corrective actions
Participate in reviews for high hazard work prior to execution to include critical lifts, confined space entries, high voltage work, pressure testing, fall protection plans, etc. Review Pre-Task Plans to ensure tasks, hazards and mitigations are aligned with the work being performed in the field
Partner with other EHS functions (Industrial Hygiene, Construction Safety, Environmental, Ergonomics, Electrical Safety, Equipment Safety, Process Safety, etc.) to treat the unique risks of their assigned areas and to ensure appropriate safeguards are recommended, implemented, and verified
Assist in the event learning process by determining primary root causes and recommending corrective and preventive actions to mitigate future incidents
Help manage, track, analyze, and report EHS metrics and assess performance against Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to drive strategic and operational planning
Ensure the EHS Management System elements are applied effectively throughout operations. Develop new procedures, inspections, training, or reports as needed
Maintain compliance with all applicable regulations and/or guidelines established by OSHA, NFPA, NIOSH, DOT, EPA, and other applicable regulatory agencies
What You'll Bring
Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, or equivalent experience
Minimum 3 years work experience as an environmental, health or safety professional, preferably in a manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, mining, heavy chemical industry, oil & gas, construction, or similar workplace
Experience supporting EHS program development, training all levels of personnel, and influencing/managing change to reduce risk
Advanced applied knowledge health and safety disciplines including Hazard Communication, LOTO, Confined Space, Electrical Safety, Safe Work at Height, Powered Industrial Vehicles, Ergonomics, and Equipment Safety
Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure while managing competing demands and deadlines
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Power Point, Project, etc.)
