Apprentice Terminal Operator
Buckeye Partners is currently seeking a Apprentice Terminal Operator with 2+ years' related experience in terminal, pipeline or marine operations in the Oil & Gas Industry to join our team.

Role Summary
Learn the overall operation and maintenance of terminal, pipeline, marine and rail assets as applicable. Execute the receipt, delivery, storage management and inventory control of petroleum products for the field location while demonstrating a basic understanding of the processes involved.

Responsibilities & Essential Functions

Train and apply knowledge for the maintenance and repair of terminal loading racks, storage and all equipment associated with terminal operations; keep facilities in good working order and acceptable appearance, maintaining company standards and solving problems.

Learn and train to be responsible for the receipt, storage and distribution of petroleum products via pipeline, rail and marine dock (if applicable), following all product movement, measurement and quality control procedures.

Become knowledgeable of petroleum terminal regulations and stay aware of all environmental regulations, safety directives and operating procedures, including Coast Guard, local, state and federal agencies, to ensure compliance.

Ensure management is apprised of any regulatory compliance issues regarding health, safety, security and environmental matters.

Maintain a good relationship with all terminal customers and respond to their inquiries and needs as required.

After training, respond to terminal, pipeline, rail and marine related emergencies when called upon and participate in annual emergency response training drills.

Operate all computer inventory control systems and participate in any inventory issue investigations.

Assist with pipeline operations, handling terminal product movements and related duties such as investigations of call incidents.

Assist with marine operations, handling dock product movements and related duties as required.

Support Asset Team to achieve high‑performance certification; may act as Asset Team point person.

Assist Buckeye terminal operations and special projects as needed.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent required.

0–2+ years of related experience in terminal, pipeline or marine operations preferred.

General understanding of equipment and maintenance of pumps, meters, truck loading racks and dock facilities preferred.

General knowledge or experience in the petroleum industry is helpful.

Inventory control and/or accounting background a plus.

Familiarity with computerized inventory control systems and truck rack automation systems desirable.

Certificates & Licenses
Some locations may require port security regulations set forth by the Transportation Security Administration and the United States Coast Guard. Employment may be contingent on obtaining state‑specific licenses and/or a Transportation Worker Identification Credential. Valid driver’s licenses required.

Ability to work well under pressure and a strong commitment to safety and teamwork.

Available during non‑work hours, may need on‑call phone at all times. Normal and extraordinary work circumstances may require, without notice, overtime, weekend or holiday work.

Ability to work with little to no supervision.

Essential Functions

Ability to safely perform essential job functions consistent with ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including achieving quantitative productivity benchmarks.

Maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with ADA, FMLA and other standards.

Compliance with all personnel policies.

Physical & Safety Requirements

Meet medical criteria established by OSHA for emergency response.

Consistently exhibit a high level of customer service.

Exposure to adverse weather conditions, hazardous environments; physical stamina to climb tanks, work long hours in the field and wear a respirator.

Regular access or work at heights exceeding 5 feet; moving mechanical parts, rail equipment, petroleum products, chemicals and dust; high noise levels.

Spend roughly 70% of time on feet; lift large objects up to 50 pounds five times per day.

Operate computer and office productivity equipment as needed.

Wear Fire Retardant Clothing and/or Personal Protective Equipment.

Stand, walk, use hands, climb ladders up to 50 feet, communicate effectively; comply with DOT drug and alcohol regulations.
