Financial Examiner
Division: Rate Regulation, Department: Financial Review.

Job Overview: The Rate Regulation Division is seeking a Financial Examiner. Responsibilities include routine to highly complex accounting work, reviewing rate change and other applications filed with the Commission. The role analyzes utility reports, accounting records, contracts, and other pertinent information for regulated and unregulated utilities, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, state laws, and Commission regulations. The examiner prepares written recommendations with mathematical accuracy, clarity, precision, and grammatical accuracy.

Salary Range
Financial Examiner II (B19): $70,008 – $75,000

Financial Examiner III (B21): $74,004 – $83,004

Financial Examiner IV (B23): $80,004 – $90,000

Financial Examiner V (B25): $90,252 – $114,000

Qualifications

An undergraduate degree or higher in accounting, finance, or business administration.

One year experience in utility accounting, regulatory accounting, finance, or public accounting for level III.

Two years experience for level IV.

Four years experience and an active CPA or CFA license for level V.

Preferred Qualifications

Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).

Experience in utility or regulatory accounting, including electric, telecommunications, or water and wastewater utilities.

Experience with rate regulation, cost of service analysis, or financial modeling in a regulatory environment.

Experience preparing or supporting expert testimony, regulatory filings, or contested case proceedings.

Work Schedule
The PUCT operates Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Alternative work schedules and telecommuting may be approved in accordance with policy and business needs.

Newly hired employees must complete a six‑month probationary period with a satisfactory review before applying to other positions.

Transfers to a new position or division require at least six months in the new role with a satisfactory review.
