Physical Therapist Assistant - Residential Adjunct Instructor

Rasmussen University is currently seeking dynamic Part‑Time Adjunct instructors to teach within the Physical Therapist Assistant program at our Hennepin/Anoka campus.

Our teaching roles enable you to continue working in the field while exploring academia and engaging the next generation of PTAs. Physical Therapist Assistant courses provide the knowledge and clinical skills critical for student success.

Adjunct faculty will co‑teach on campus for PTA laboratory activities. Prior teaching experience is not required; training is provided.

Reporting Relationships
Adjunct Faculty will report to the Program Director.

Responsibilities

Communicate verbally and in writing with students, providing consistent feedback on their performance throughout the course.

Be available for students via phone, email, and in‑person appointments as needed for questions and academic assistance.

Respond to Dean/University staff regarding student performance, issues or concerns, or items needed for faculty file/accreditation in a timely manner.

Maintain appropriate behavior, language, professional communication, demeanor and dress at all times while on campus.

Key Accountabilities
The essential functions include teaching up to 3 work units per academic quarter and performing all other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.

Teaching Effectiveness: Professionalism, Use of Technology, and Content Expertise

Create dynamic, active classrooms and use effective teaching strategies with multiple techniques.

Model appropriate learning skills and foster an environment conducive to learning.

Create student engagement through activities, community building and student‑centered learning, including live classroom tools for synchronous sessions.

Align class session objectives with course performance objectives, maintaining clear clarity and relevance.

Organize classroom and use class time efficiently.

Subject Matter Expertise

Demonstrate mastery and ability to articulate and relate subject matter to students.

Play an integral role in development and implementation of curriculum and assessment for the area of expertise.

Student and University Support and Professionalism

Collaborate with the Dean to create a supportive classroom presence for students.

Provide student support and outreach through synchronous or asynchronous communication and meetings to help students achieve learning objectives.

Faculty Meetings and Other Responsibilities

Attend programmatic meetings, events, and committee work as agreed or designated by the Dean.

Professional Development

Complete at least six (6) Rasmussen Educational Units (REUs) annually or two (2) REUs per quarter for each quarter taught (whichever is less), covering Teaching Development and Development in Discipline.

Experience and Qualifications

Teaching experience preferred, with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in the relevant field.

Clinical preceptor experience preferred.

Self‑motivated, flexible, and able to work in a team environment with minimal supervision.

Strong interpersonal skills to interact with students, leadership and peers.

Excellent written communication and strong verbal communication skills in English.

Education, Certifications and Licensures

Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate in Physical Therapy or degree in Physical Therapist Assistant, Associate’s degree with a Bachelor's in any field.

Active, unrestricted PT or PTA license.

Minimum 2 years of experience as a PT/PTA in outpatient and/or inpatient practice settings.

Must provide professional licenses, certifications and official transcripts from accredited institutions before teaching.

Must adhere to Rasmussen University’s faculty immunization policy and provide proper documentation.
