Job Description
A Day in the Life

The Ultrasonographer II functions as a healthcare provider who, working under the delegated authority of the supervising physician, serves as a medical imaging professional providing clinically relevant information to assist the physician with the diagnosis and treatment of patients.

The Ultrasonographer II role and responsibilities include providing diagnostic medical sonography services and its various clinical specialties including vascular exams and/or high-level ultrasound exams as listed below.

The Ultrasonographer II activities are performed consistent with their education, training, ARDMS registries and sonographer experience in accordance with facility policies and procedures and applicable professional standards. The Ultrasonographer II experience and knowledge level provides a mentor and teacher to other staff sonographers.

This position will be a service line position meaning that individuals selected for this position will be required to cover various sites within the Munson Healthcare Cardiovascular Service line. The service line includes Cardiac Diagnostic Suite at Webber Heart Center Traverse City, Traverse Heart & Vascular Traverse City, & Munson Healthcare Cadillac. There is a continuous working relationship with other members of the CDS team (medical staff, nursing staff and physician office staff).

Performs routine STAT 2D Echocardiograms, M-mode and cardiac Doppler studies with direct supervision.

Performs adult 2D Echocardiograms. M-mode, PW & CW Doppler, Color Spectral Doppler and Transesophageal Echocardiograms, with some exposure to pediatric patients.

In addition, performs stress echocardiograms and Dobutamine Stress Echocardiograms.

There are no supervisory or managerial responsibilities with the position, however, the Cardiac Ultrasound Technologist must teach the procedures to other designated staff. May be required to travel outside the hospital.

Qualifications

Completion of college or hospital based Vascular or Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program or completion of Allied Health Program approved by the AMA.

Registered Sonographer with 10 or more years’ experience who have at least 1 RDMS subspecialties (i.e. ABD and OB/GYN etc.). This elevated designation represents a highly skilled and knowledgeable General sonographer and is expected to be a mentor and teacher for all technologists.

Technologists must perform basic ultrasound and vascular exams listed with Ultrasonographer I along with more highly skilled exams such as: Appendix, Intussusception, Hernia, OB-Multiple Gest, Follicular, OR-all exams gen and vascular, Upper extremity venous, Vein Mapping, Infant Spine, Hysterosonogram, Paracentesis, Thoracentesis, Amniocentesis, Abscess Drainage, Biopsies (any organ), OR-including: Endarterectomy, Partial Nephrectomy, D/C, Tumor location for Excision, Renal Artery Doppler, Mesenteric Doppler, Liver Doppler, Renal Transplant, Upper Arterial, Lower Arterial, Peripheral vascular arterial, Peripheral venous studies including vein mapping.

Schedule
Variable schedule, up to 40 hours per week, weekend call rotation.

Additional Information
Munson Healthcare requires all employees be vaccinated or have lab confirmed immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella.
