Job Description
Harford Community College's Office of Accessibility (OA) provides accommodations and support services to students with documented disabilities. Accessibility Assistants are expected to maintain confidentiality of student information.
Attend all scheduled classes and take thorough, legible notes on class lectures and discussions.
Use a computer, tablet, or other electronic device to send copies of notes to the student.
Read information aloud in a slow, precise manner, speaking clearly to an audio recorder or directly to a student.
Complete reading assignments in a timely manner and deliver copies of audio recordings to OA.
Assist students by writing answers to exams or other written assignments exactly as dictated by the student, writing the student’s words legibly, and giving a copy of the scribed materials to the Test Center, OA, the instructor, or the student.
Candidates will be required to sign a FERPA release permitting access to educational records to confirm the required GPA, credit, and disciplinary standing.
Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, or the District of Columbia. Work is generally performed on the College campus unless otherwise specified.
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States, as the College does not offer Visa sponsorship for this position.
Required Education
Successful completion of six credits of college-level courses, including English Composition, with a minimum GPA of 2.0.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Accessibility Assistants must have excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to currently enrolled HCC students.
General Weekly Work Schedule
Hours vary based on the needs of the department. The hours of part‑time, as‑needed employees are limited to a total of less than 500 hours in each fiscal year (July 1 - June 30).
