Lean/Continuous Improvement Intern

This internship offers hands‑on experience supporting materials management and continuous improvement through participation in Lean Kaizen activities and follow‑up initiatives. Interns will analyze inventory, MRP parameters, lead times, and planning data to help improve raw, semi‑finished, and finished goods performance across manufacturing and distribution operations. The role focuses on reducing excess and obsolete materials, improving inventory health, addressing product expiry and scrap, and supporting solution implementation, performance tracking, and final presentations of results.

How You’ll Make An Impact

Supporting 1-2 Hercules operations in each of their improvements to inventory dollars, inbound freight cost, and net scrap (i.e. expiry)

Kaizen preparation: baseline data collection and analysis, understanding MRP (impact of planning/buying, impact of key master data such as safety stock, lead time, lot size, etc.), and how these factors impact inventory dollars, inventory turns and product expiry.

Post Kaizen sustainment (of improvements) daily management, process indicators, standard work, and plant MORs.

Participation in a minimum of 1 global Lean Kaizen.

Implementation of local KPIs (plant inventory dashboard) for each work area.

Calculating the financial impact of the kaizen teams supported.

What You Bring

Education: Major in Operations Management, Material Management, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

Work Experience: previous summer internships or work experience in laboratories, manufacturing environments working with electromechanical, chemical and/or mechanical devices.

Laboratory experience working with electrical/electro mechanical devices and equipment is a plus.

Strong interpersonal skills: must work well and interact with people of all levels of education, work experience and different functions/departments.

Problem solver: natural curiosity, inquisitiveness and a seek‑to‑understand mentality.

3.0 minimum GPA.

Rising juniors, seniors, and master’s students.

Be willing to make a full‑time commitment of 40 hours a week for 9 weeks from June 15 to August 14, 2026.

Location: this position must be based in

Hercules, California

and requires the employee to be located within commuting distance of the office.

Compensation
The hourly range for this position is $25 at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be provided in writing at the time of offer, if applicable, and is based on several factors we believe fairly and accurately impact compensation, including geographic location, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other job permitted factors.
