
RN Clinical Nurse IV - Progressive Care Unit

Description
This position qualifies for our UNC Health Johnston Incentive Program. The Clinical Nurse IV practices at the level of an expert practitioner of nursing as defined by Benner, P. (1984). The nurse at this level demonstrates expertise in caring for patients with multiple and complex problems and serves as a resource and system-wide consultant to staff.
Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Department
UNC Health Johnston PCU Department includes 19 intermediate level of care beds. Our team provides high quality care to a variety of patients including antiarrhythmic and vasoactive drips, continuous Bi‑PAP, and many other treatment modalities. Patients admitted to the Progressive Care Unit are on a continuous cardiac monitor. Ratios for intermediate level of care are 4 patients to 1 nurse.
The PCU team consists of Registered Nurses, Monitor Techs and Patient Care Assistants committed to providing excellent, compassionate, and innovative care.
Summary
The Clinical Nurse IV demonstrates clinical leadership on the unit, acts as a clinical leader, and participates in endeavors to increase nursing knowledge.
Responsibilities
Clinical Nursing Practice – Promote an environment that values diversity, open communication, teamwork and exceptional service. Ensure that appropriate care and services are available to patients, clients and families during the assigned shift. Facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration in patient/client care planning to achieve desired outcomes. Coordinate care with interdisciplinary team members and demonstrate clinical expertise in the specified patient population.
Education and Professional Development – Coordinate, design and implement educational programs to meet identified learning needs of staff, patients and families. Promote staff participation in continuing education, orientation and other development offerings. Provide clinical expertise for patient education materials and promote professional growth of self and staff.
HR Management – Create and promote an environment conducive to recruiting and retaining staff. Provide performance feedback to assist in hiring, promotion and staff development. Model behaviors that effectively give continual feedback to staff and colleagues.
Operational and Fiscal Management – Establish standards of excellence, ensure consistent implementation by staff, and collaborate with the Nurse Manager to manage budgets, increase revenue, and meet regulatory standards.
Research and Performance Improvement – Collaborate with the Nurse Manager to evaluate and implement research that improves practice. Lead performance improvement initiatives focused on patient safety and quality of care opportunities.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) from a professional nursing school.
Licensure/Certification Requirements
Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina.
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
For positions at magnet hospitals, professional certification relevant to the practice area and on the ANCC Magnet approved list is required within the probationary period of employment.
Professional Experience Requirements
18 months of professional nursing experience in a tertiary care setting, including charge and precepting experience.
