Lab Assistant - 1st Shift
Location: Murfreesboro, TN 37129
Duration: 5+ months
Shift: Monday - Friday 8 AM – 5 PM CST
Additional Job Details
Candidate must have their own reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license to get to/from the worksite without issue. Bus, Uber, or rideshare is not reliable transportation.
Must be available to work whenever scheduled, be on time, and stay for the entire shift. Excessive absenteeism or tardiness is not tolerated and will be cause of termination.
Heavy production site with many repetitive tasks. Medical terminology is a plus but not required. If testing samples, a lab coat, mask, goggles, gloves, and protective wear are required.
Must have an excellent understanding of the English language, both spoken and written. Bilingual candidates who also speak Spanish are strongly preferred, but English must still be strong.
Job Summary
Perform various routine laboratory functions precisely and accurately to assist laboratory professional staff and facilitate production.
Job Requirements
Sort and receive specimens in the department; perform routine instrument maintenance on some equipment.
Perform laboratory tasks such as centrifuging specimens, printing labels, recording data on temperature charts, and specimen storage and retrieval.
Prepare reagents and/or media in the department.
Prepare specimens at workstations for testing.
Build worklists, aliquot specimens into sample cups, check specimens for clots and fibrin, inoculate, and prepare slides. Perform QA/QC duties as assigned and resolve pending lists.
Find missing samples and decontaminate work areas.
Perform weekly radioactive wipe tests and maintain files for department records.
Change gas cylinders. Follow all PPE requirements and safety regulations.
Use the laboratory computer system and operate PCs. Dispose of biohazardous material.
Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent. Medical assistant training is helpful.
Math and science courses preferred.
Work Experience

Must be able to establish work priorities and handle several tasks for maximum workstation efficiency.
