Assistant Controller, Finance

Position Summary
The Assistant Controller will play a pivotal role in ensuring the integrity of the organization's financial operations, supporting decision‑making at all levels, and maintaining compliance with Red Bull policies, league and regulatory standards. This position reports directly to the Vice President, Finance.

The ideal candidate is proactive, entrepreneurial, and highly organized—someone who is comfortable representing the organization externally, establishing new processes, and driving projects forward in a fast‑paced environment.

Responsibilities

Support the preparation and analysis of monthly and annual financial statements in accordance with Red Bull Controlling Standard, IFRS and US GAAP.

Assist in overseeing daily accounting operations, including journal entries, account reconciliations and sub‑ledger maintenance.

Monitor annual budgets and recurring forecasts, providing variance analysis and strategic recommendations to support the work of the Club’s Financial Planning & Analysis Team.

Support the management of Budget Reporting compilation and, as needed, participate in the upload of headcount (via Anaplan), balance sheet and cash flow data and its associated preparation and submission (incl. ongoing liquidity forecasts).

Assist in the production of ongoing revised estimates exercises and in the compilation, preparation and submission to Austria.

Ensure compliance with Red Bull Controlling Guidelines, as well as federal and state tax requirements and other relevant laws.

Maintain effective internal controls to safeguard the club’s assets in line with Red Bull Group policies and support overall process compliance and accountability.

Enforce parent and local internal control procedures, rules and regulations.

Support the Vice President, Finance in managing the annual external audit with E&Y, including preparation of workpapers and timely responses to auditor inquiries.

Oversee payroll review processes and employee benefit accounting in collaboration with Human Resources and the payroll department.

Support the review of weekly AP and AR processes and controls in coordination with staff in Santa Monica and ensure prompt and accurate processing of payments and receipts, including all internal vendor processing guidelines.

Support the Vice President, Finance in monitoring cash flow needs and assist in weekly payments run proposals and required checks in line with internal Red Bull policies.

Identify opportunities for operational efficiencies and implement best practices in financial processes and systems.

Support the preparation and production of month‑end and year‑end close procedures.

Support balance sheet management and reporting.

Support the monthly financial reporting.

Audit, tax and regulatory compliance including income tax filings.

Support management of federal, state and city payroll taxes.

Support compliance and management of property taxes and other tax payments are made timely and accurately.

Ongoing identification of risks and opportunities in departmental budgets and forecasts.

Track actual results related to material transactions.

Assist the team in the league reporting process for annual budgets and sources & uses.

Assist, as needed, in the preparation and management of settlement accounting of all events held at Sports Illustrated Stadium.

Support the completion of recurring league game statements and monthly settlement process.

Qualifications
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment. Demonstrated attention to detail and capacity to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Passion for sports and familiarity with Major League Soccer business operations a plus. Prior experience working with ticketing systems, client relationship management systems and databases is desirable.

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or progress toward CPA strongly preferred.

Minimum of 4 years’ experience in accounting or finance, preferably in a sports, entertainment, or related industry.

Strong knowledge of US GAAP and internal controls; experience with multi‑entity organizations a plus.

Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAP, BI, Hyperion, SmartView, or similar), as well as Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications.

Experience with payroll processing and benefits accounting preferred.

Because of the cyclical nature of the entertainment industry, your assigned hours may vary to reflect our needs (includes nights and weekends).

Salary and Benefits
The base salary for this position is $140,000. Actual salary offers may vary based on work experience. The base pay is subject to change and may be modified.
