Facility Maintenance Technician-Mechanical Trades

Position Summary
This position is responsible for analysis, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of all activities related to underground campus utilities and related building steam and heating systems. The position will initiate repairs or replacements as necessary to upgrade campus systems and minimize energy losses. The position reports to the Mechanical Shop Supervisor and will assist with special projects as directed.

Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or equivalent. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position’s role may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis.

License / Certification Required
None specified.

Essential Job Functions

Maintenance and repair of campus steam, condensate, water distribution, and collection infrastructure.

Maintenance, repair, and replacement of steam valves, pressure regulators, condensate pumps, and condensate traps.

Repair, fabrication, and installation of metal components and equipment across campus.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required

Provide technical knowledge and expertise in the maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and installation of underground campus steam and condensate systems as well as associated components.

Maintain, repair, and troubleshoot building mechanical, steam, and hydronic systems.

Perform maintenance, repair, and installation of the campus water distribution system when required.

Ability to weld various types of metal, and operate university‑owned vehicles with a valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

Some knowledge of steam and condensate systems.

Welding certification and experience in cutting pipe and steel.

History of good work ethic and teamwork skills.

Knowledge of welding practices for stainless steel and aluminum.

Commercial Driver’s License.

Functional Competencies
Knowledge‑Technical : Perform a variety of recurring and non‑recurring tasks/functions. Offer technical assistance to others by troubleshooting standard facilities maintenance issues and determining their cause. Mentor other technicians.

Coordination‑Work : Determine project/assignment by breaking them down into tasks, set objectives, prioritize activities, and adjust priorities. Use available resources efficiently and prepare alternative plans. Use time effectively and avoid distractions.

Position Details
Type of Position: Permanent Full‑Time. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 6:00 am – 3:00 pm. Work may be required past the normal eight‑hour day, weekends, holidays, and during adverse weather events. Number of Hours: 40 per week.

Physical Demands
Subject to extremes of heat, cold, dust, and dirt. Heavy lifting in excess of 100 pounds on a limited basis. Call‑back situations may necessitate emergency repairs in inclement weather.

Salary
Anticipated Hiring Range: $41,736 - $47,505. Pay commensurate with applicant competencies, budget, equity and market considerations.
