Job Summary
As a Department Support Assistant, you will provide essential general office and clerical support within the Emergency Department. Every day you will perform clerical tasks, utilizing basic office equipment and computer terminals, while adhering to established procedures that primarily impact your immediate unit. To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate a strong ability to learn on the job, efficiently execute secretarial duties, and adhere to guidelines under direct supervision, contributing to departmental efficiency.
Responsibilities
Notifies admitting of change in patient status, admit or transfer.
Acts as a receptionist for the Unit; politely and professionally answers all calls, and routes to the appropriate person. Takes accurate messages and ensures that these messages reach the appropriate person.
Admits patient onto central monitor; prints rhythm strips and posts to the appropriate chart; notifies RN or appropriate staff member of status changes on the monitor, rhythm changes, and abnormal vital signs.
Acknowledges and silences monitor alarms in a timely manner and follows up with appropriate staff member.
Acts as a communication liaison between other departments, physician offices, and patients’ families dispensing information as directed.
Transcribes physician orders accurately; accurately orders labs, imaging, diet and test for all patients.
Shift and Schedule
Shift: 6pm - 6:30am
Schedule: Week 1 Thu, Fri, Sat; Week 2 Sun, Tue, Wed
