Maintenance Utility Worker
Shift: 3rd shift 11pm – 7am

Pay: B3 $27.80 - $28.40/hr

Purpose of the Job : Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager and Maintenance Expeditor, the Maintenance Utility Worker is responsible for supporting plant maintenance operations through daily facility and grounds upkeep, mobile equipment operation, and entry‑level maintenance assistance. This position serves as a training and developmental role designed to prepare employees for advancement into the Maintenance Technician position, which includes troubleshooting, repair, and preventative maintenance of plant production equipment and systems.

Key Accountabilities

Utility and Support Responsibilities

Collects and disposes of plant trash and maintains cleanliness throughout the facility.

Maintains the exterior grounds and surrounding plant property.

Performs all tasks necessary to safely operate mobile equipment according to established procedures.

Maintains a clean and organized work environment consistent with 5S standards. All other duties as assigned.

Maintenance Training and Development

Assists Maintenance Technicians with equipment repairs, preventative maintenance (PMs), and plant system support as part of on‑the‑job training.

Learns to troubleshoot primary and auxiliary production equipment under supervision.

Develops ability to work from design sketches, drawings, hydraulic blueprints, and verbal instructions.

Provides input and support for equipment modifications and continuous improvement efforts.

Communication and Teamwork

Actively communicates with coworkers on key plant priorities including safety, quality, production, maintenance, and continuous improvement.

Follows work instructions and may be asked to help write, revise, or train others on those instructions. Performs basic root cause analysis when issues arise and determines when appropriate personnel need to be contacted.

Safety and Flexibility

Adheres to all plant and corporate safety policies and procedures.

Ability to lift up to 40 pounds independently, or up to 80 pounds in a team‑lift scenario. May assist in other areas or perform additional duties as required by fluctuating business needs.

Knowledge / Skills / Experience

Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team‑based environment.

Ability to work in a fast‑paced, multi‑task setting while maintaining a positive attitude.

Ability to read, write, and follow written or verbal instructions in English.

Intermediate maintenance/mechanical skills required.

Industrial experience preferred but not required.

Possess basic to intermediate math skills.

Willingness and ability to acquire a mobile equipment license.

Demonstrates self‑motivation and ability to work with minimal supervision.

Interest in learning plant equipment functions, troubleshooting, and repair processes as part of progression into a Maintenance Worker role.
