Summary
The Monitor Technician Extern, under the supervision of a Nurse Educator or Monitor Technician, performs telemetry monitoring and other related technical and clinical activities to support the Monitor Technician Team.
Responsibilities
Reports abnormal heart rhythms and changes in patients’ telemetry monitoring to nursing staff, immediate supervisor or designated chain of command.
Identifies arrhythmias, deviation in patients’ baseline, signs of patient deterioration, and intervenes to ensure patient safety.
Completes all required shift documentation and updates patient’s records with all readings taken from the heart monitor or EKGs.
Activates emergency response or rapid response for lethal arrhythmia or cardiac arrest.
Identifies and corrects for artifacts.
Performs continual and simultaneous surveillance of multiple patient monitors.
Provides complete and accurate handoff of all patient monitoring and events to oncoming shift.
Attaches electrodes to patient’s bodies to record electrical impulses from the heart to perform continuous ECG monitoring.
