
Network Engineer

Under general supervision, performs one or more of the following activities on the company's internal networks - configuration management, system administration, security administration, network administration, development system implementation, production system implementation.
Essential Functions / Responsibilities
Respond promptly to issues related to the network environment, hardware, systems, and software; analyze root causes and implement effective resolutions across multiple technology areas.
Serve as a primary technical liaison between the company, vendors, ISPs, and business partners. Hold vendors accountable for their deliverables, expertise, and service quality to ensure network integrity and performance.
Act as a key resource for the Network Operations Center (NOC), bridging communications between vendors and internal stakeholders during network outages or incidents.
Provide backup support for hiring manager's technical responsibilities, including incident management, escalation, and coordination.
Utilize comprehensive knowledge of the company's network infrastructure to proactively monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize network systems.
Support change management processes by assessing, coordinating, and implementing network changes with minimal disruption to business operations.
Assist in outage management by identifying issues, communicating status updates, and coordinating resolution efforts.
Collaborate with project management teams to implement new systems, upgrades, and network enhancements.
Maintain and enforce a strong security mindset, ensuring compliance with corporate security policies and best practices.
Use ServiceNow PDSM Event Management and Knowledge Management tools to track, document, and manage network incidents and resolutions effectively.
Continuously review and improve NOC processes to meet or exceed operational objectives, expectations, and standards.
Analyze customer feedback related to NOC support services and coordinate with vendor teams to implement corrective and preventive actions that enhance service quality.
Identify opportunities to automate and integrate processes and operational activities to increase efficiency within the Network Operations environment.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall health and security of the network environment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Extensive understanding of TCP/IP protocols, routing and switching technologies, wireless networking, VPN, firewalls, and load balancing.
Experience with network monitoring tools to detect, diagnose, and resolve network performance issues.
Prior experience or familiarity with FedEx systems and their network environment is highly desirable.
Proficient in ServiceNow PDSM Event Management and Knowledge Management modules.
Strong communication skills to effectively coordinate between vendors, ISPs, and internal business partners.
Experience with change and outage management processes.
Demonstrated critical thinking and problem‑solving skills to manage complex network issues.
Proven ability to review, improve, and innovate operational processes within an NOC environment.
Ability to analyze customer feedback and drive vendor accountability for continuous service improvement.
Skilled in identifying automation and integration opportunities to enhance operational efficiency.
Security‑focused approach to network design, implementation, and administration.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also collaborating effectively within a team.
Minimum Education
Bachelor's Degree in IT related engineering, computer science, or information systems.
Minimum Experience
Two (2) years work experience in engineering or information technology environment. A related advanced degree may offset the related experience requirements.
Domicile Information
This position can be domiciled anywhere in the United States. The ability to work remotely within the United States may be available based on business need. Preference is for employee to be hybrid in one of the corporate FedEx offices.
