Summary of Assignment
This job assignment is accountable for assisting in instructing student athletes in a specific sports activity and providing leadership in helping each participating student achieve a high level of skill, and appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship and an increased level of self-esteem.
Minimum Education And Experience
Certificate of Completion for Module 15 from the Connecticut Coaching Education Program.
Connecticut State Department of Education Coach permit or Temporary Coach permit.
Current CPR and First Aid Certificates.
High School diploma or GED.
Life Guard Certification – Swimming Only.
Successful completion of pre‑employment process.
Current Motor Vehicle operator's license (required for some positions).

Essential Functions
Assist the head coach in planning and scheduling a regular program of practice in season in accordance with district policy and state athletic rules.
Assist the head coach with year‑end inventory and award information as requested.
Assist the head coach with team rosters as requested.
Assist in efforts to improve the program.
Assist in managing athlete behavior during all athletic practices, competitions, and events.
Assist in overseeing the safety conditions of the facility or area in which the assigned sport is conducted at all times.
Assist players in the care and prevention of injuries.
Assist the head coach with maintaining necessary attendance forms, accident reports, and similar paperwork.
Assist the head coach in recommending purchase of equipment, supplies, and uniforms, as appropriate.
Assist the head coach, when necessary, in scheduling contests and transportation where applicable.
Attend clinics, camps, and seminars as required.
Attend coaches and rules interpretation meetings.
Coach individual participants in the skills necessary for achievement in the sport involved.
Collect all uniforms and equipment at the end of the season.
Communicate with classroom teachers to encourage individual success of each player.
Communicate with the head coach regarding coaching strategies and procedures.
Comply with board policies and district procedures in the development and maintenance of the interscholastic athletics program.
Enforce discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times and assist in establishing and overseeing penalties for breach of such standards by individual students.
Enforce rules and regulations established by the head coach and distribute copies of same to all team members prior to the start of the season.
Ensure proper care of equipment and the orderly distribution and collection of all athletic equipment.
Ensure safety of students and supervise the condition of the locker room.
Ensure timely completion of all tasks and maintain accurate records (attendance forms, accident reports, etc.).
Evaluate assigned programs and submit written reports to the head coach at the conclusion of the season.
Evaluate players and provide feedback on performance and progress.
Follow all applicable state laws and CIAC regulations as outlined in the CIAC Handbook.
Follow district procedures for establishing eligibility criteria for interscholastic competition.
Interact positively with staff, students, and parents.
Tape and review game films as encouraged.
Maintain confidentiality of student athlete grades for eligibility purposes.
Maintain satisfactory attendance and serve as a role model for students.
Plan and schedule a regular program of practice in season (including holidays or vacation periods).
Promote good public relations through personal appearance, attitude, and conversation.
Provide a positive learning environment for the athletes.
Respond to routine questions and requests appropriately.
Submit physical forms and other necessary paperwork to the school nurse prior to engaging in the sport.
Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
