JMU Libraries Graduate Assistant
Position type: Graduate Assistant (Part‑time). Work: 20 hours per week with a stipend of $10,110. Start date is August 25, 2026 (negotiable). The role is primarily located in the newly‑opened Carrier Library, part of the Libraries’ Research & Education Services (RES) Department.

Duties and Responsibilities

Research the feasibility of new instruction and outreach services by conducting small‑group interviews, focus groups, and evaluating qualitative data.

Write proposals for implementing or adapting user‑facing services.

Assist RES librarians with liaison work and support the RES Director in developing interdepartmental materials, such as collecting and organizing information and managing spreadsheets.

Use graphic‑design tools like Canva to create materials.

Qualifications

Strong organizational skills.

Effective and prompt communication skills in person and written.

Ability to work independently.

Strong time‑management skills.

Ability to multitask and work on multiple concurrent projects.

Preferred qualifications:

Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.

Experience with original qualitative research (focus groups, interviews, surveys).

Experience with graphic‑design tools such as Photoshop or Canva.

Conditions of Employment

Eligible applicants must be conditionally or unconditionally accepted into a graduate program; provisional admission does not qualify until the student meets the acceptance criteria.

Students must have an official transcript showing completion of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution.

After receiving the assistantship, students must maintain at least a 3.0 graduate GPA to retain or reapply for the position.
